Is there really any use denying the fact that Final Fantasy III is, perhaps, the best RPG of all time? This was remastered upon the Playstation, but it lacked a certain something that could only be in the Super Nintendo game, and it's really hard to trigger exactly what. Known for it's stupendeous graphics, excellent storyline, and simple coolness, Final Fantasy III is probably still one of the ten best video games of all time, even over it's PSX and N64 precedors. Storyline: 9.3: So it's another game with an Empire trying to take over the world. Big deal. But that's barely even half of it. Every character has a different background and a different role, and with 14 different characters.. well, that's quite a storyline. Perhaps a bit confusing for younger gamers, the story is a treasured one, filled with evil, backstabbers, and.. looooove! Maybe a bit.. Graphics: 9.5: Sure, there's no 3-d here, but the character icons look incredible. Actually, yes, I guess in the airship would be 3-d, or amazingly close to it. Monsters looked great, and spells were incredible, often changing the background. Sound: 8.9: Excellent music, but kind of a lack of sound effects. Challenge: 8.0: Hard first time through, but if you know some secrets, it's a breeze. Bosses were often long, but it's not the hardest RPG of all time or anything. Addiction: 9.7: Absolutely incredible. This is the kind of game that you stay up through the night to play. Your quote should be, "I'll go to bed in a bit. I need to see what Kefka does next." or "School can wait-I gotta learn Ultima first." or something. Replay Value: 9.1: Impressive replay value. In the World of Ruin, you can save the characters in different orders and stuff. You can use different Espers. You can use the Sneak attack more and more. You can try new relic combos and stuff. Only problem is that the storyline won't surprise you anymore. Play Control: 9.8: It's easy to get a good Play Control for an RPG, and this is no exception. It's a billionth of a second slow when you hit up or down in the battles, but barely noticable. Overall: 9.7: Notice that Secret of Mana is my favorite game of all time, but Final Fantasy III got a much better Overall score. You're not a real RPG player until you've played this and beaten it. Simply.. incredible. And kinda hard to find, too. Harvest Moon 64 is next on the list, and before anything, I gotta say this is a REAL all time favorite. About 50 different characters to talk to, and each of them has a whole mess of different quotes, depending on how nice you are to them. Not for younger people, seeing as how half of the game is farming, picking flowers, and hitting on girls.. but the other half is reading, seeing different reactions, and such. Book lovers will adore this game. Storyline: 7.6: Well, okay, a trying part. In fact, the story isn't good at all, but.. well, it's hard to explain. Your grandpa dies, and you inherit his farm. Simple, boring. But through the game... it's not the storyline that counts, it's the experience. Oh, heck, I give. Graphics: 8.6: Nice and cartoony, but sometimes a little too blury. Sound: 8.3: Good music, cute sound effects, but everytime you enter a new screen, the music either starts as a different song or restarts, which is really annoying. Like, when you're outside, and you enter the chicken coop, the music will pause, and restart. If not for that, the rating for sound would be much higher. Challenge: 8.2: It's definetly enough of a challenge to marry a girl, but you gotta give gifts and stuff to almost *everyone* to truely experience the game. Add that to crop raising, flower growing, raising livestock, going to festivals, building your house, and a trillion other surprises, this game is no walk in the park. Addiction: 9.8: It is almost impossible to not stay up late playing this game. "Just one more day..!" you'll plead with yourself. This game will captivate you. Say bye to mom and dad for a few weeks. Replay Value: 7.9: Well, it's such a long game, filled with a bit of repetition, but there's enough to keep you playing a few times after.. most specifically, a different wife. Elli's my favorite. ^^ Play Control: 9.3: Pretty good. Sometimes watering crops took a little getting used to, but it's not too bad. Overall: 9.2: An incredibly fun game that's nearly impossible to hate. Next comes one of the more hated games of all time, Secret of Evermore. Why is it hated? Brother, if I knew that, I'd.. know that. I always thought this game, while not even comparable to Secret of Mana, was really special in it's own little way, and, yes, it *does* beat out Secret of Mana and the Legend of Zelda games in one or two ways, if you stretch it. Storyline: 7.2: Well, a bit.. uninspired. Kid's dog runs into a mansion, and they get zapped to another dimension. It's kinda interesting, at least, if not completely and suspiciously biologically impossible. Graphics: 7.5: The kid's hair looks like a big blob of silly putty! But the prehistoric dog is oh-so-cute.. and ferocious! The alchemy is okay, though some of the animations are too short. Monsters look great. Sound: 8.3: This is interesting. The music is great, but what's weird are the unique sound effects INSTEAD of music. Like birds and stuff. It's cute. Challenge: 7.6: Not hard, although running out of alchemy in the middle of a dungeon can be difficult. Thorax was pretty hard for the first boss.. well, the raptors, but it's okay to die agains them. Addiction: 7.4: Not bad. That's all I have to say. Replay Value: 8.3: You can try leveling up different alchemies, and try different weapons.. and find different ingredients.. the list continues! Play Control: 9.5: All fine and dandy, although a tad hard in the pause screen. Overall: 8.3: A game that nobody likes.. but everyone should! Next up is the game that started the popular series, the original Harvest Moon for the SNES. While not as complex as Harvest Moon 64, it definetly holds a little charm that the 64 version lacked. Also, the music was incredible, and, while people don't tend to think of music as a big part of a game, I disagree. This is, Harvest Moon. Storyline: 6.8: Well, okay, so that's one down. Your parents leave (where do they GO for two and a half years?!), and leave YOU in charge of the farm. You gotta whip it into shape. Umm, but why's it in such bad condition if they've had the farm before? No animals, no crops, nothing. Kinda fails to make sense. Graphics: 8.5: Colorful, and the shading affects of different parts of the day was incredible. Icons are easy to see. Some even believe these graphics are superior to the 64 version's! Sound: 8.6: Incredible sound that would've gotten a higher mark if not for the atrociously annoying sounds when you're talking to someone. Lovely music. Sound affects are lively and cute. Challenge: 8.2: Not the hardest thing to grace the system, but quite, quite difficult to become Harvest Master. Addiction: 9.4: You may as well be glued to your bottom when you sit down to start this game. Replay Value: 7.9: Too much repitition, though fun, to be incredibly special at the replay value. Play Control: 9.0: Good play control. Instead of having to hold a direction all the time, simply holding B will make you run in that direction without you pressing that direction on the pad. However, some things were a bit innaccurate, and it's easy to drop stuff right near the crate. Overall: 9.1: Sparked a bunch of influence, and definetly gets super points for originality.
