The Depot: 1825: New Components

Several people have stated that the components included with 1825 are less than ideal. The game comes with no Company Certificates and the Station Markers are plastic tiddly winks with a confusing colour mix (i.e. three different shades of green plastic counter plus there is not always a match between plastic counter colour and that used on the shares).

Chris Lawson writes: "As far as I can see this was due to cost cutting, the shares and tiddly winks are old stock and it seems Francis Tresham does not believe in the need of Company Certificates."

"Due to this I have designed some new components (based on the ones I have made for my 1899/China gamekit), they serve three different aims:
(i) help during gameplay, i.e. make it easier to play the game
(ii) people expect such components when playing 18xx games
(iii) make the game more visually attractive"

"As this is a gamekit, the components will require cutting out but I think the amount of effort is well worth it."

"The kit consists of 6 x A4 sheet (160gm card, each a different colour)
Each sheet has printed on it:
(i) Company Certificate
(ii) Tokens (Station Markers and SPI Marker)
(iii) Company Shares (1 Director share and 8 ordinary shares)
in addition, there is:
(iv) a Stock Market Table (which includes the Bank Pool, somewhere to place the Trains, the Initial Share Holdings plus a look up table for the SPI) on a A3 size full colour board.
(v) a New set of player Money (now adjusted to the correct total of 5,000)."

"The six sheets are printed on 160gm card, it is up to you if you think it required to be laminated or not, the card is a bit thin but does the job as is. Each company has been printed on a different colour, this means each Company is colour coded, so it is easy to distinguish each one during play."

"The normally empty space on the Company Certificate has been utilised to include some useful information as well. I have added the following:
(i) space for the Station Markers along with their cost
(ii) a table that details the 1825 Phase changes along with Train cost, numbers available, train limits, etc.
(iii) a dividend payout table (this is a multiplication times table to help work out the dividends, e.g. 11 x 2 up to 30 x 9)
(iv) a line drawing of a appropriate train (just for decoration)"

"The Station Markers are printed as octagonal, instead of round, tokens. The reason for this is it is easier to mount the token on 1/2" counters and then clip the corners off. If required, I can supply the correct number of 1/2" counters at cost (I use the Chessex Counter Sheets #1401 for this). A separate square token is supplied for use on the Share Market Table. The tokens are expected to be glued onto thick card, so that is why I am offering to supply the counters."

"The Shares are the usual 8 x 10% shares plus a 20% Director share. Each share has a company "logo" that matches the other Tokens and Company Certificates, this logo does not match any historical equivalent but is designed to help visual recognition. I have NOT printed the share price on the share, this is my personal taste, I believe this information should be on the Stock Market Table but since it is not, a new Stock Market board is my next project (this will be a straight functional equivalent of the issued 1825 SPI but to my design standards)."

"So, COST. This is what everyone wants to know. How much am I going to charge for all this."

"Costs: I am still trying to get a handle on the mailing, so these are subject to change:
1825 Stock Market Table £1.20 (£2.20 for Mounted Board)
1825 Replacement Components £0.30
1825 Replacement Money Set £0.30
1/2" counters (32 off) £0.40
Postage varies from £1.00 up to (using Air Mail) £3.20"
