The Depot: 1899: Ordering Information

The game is an 1830 variant based on a map of Northern China/Korea. There are new rules that detail the Private Companies and other additions such as Mail Train Revenue. The game itself uses the same number of Companies, Privates, Trains, etc as 1830 but it plays very differently due to the Map and the rule additions.

If you enjoy the 1830 style of game, then this gives you new avenues and tactics to explore. The advantage with this game is that it does not require a whole new ruleset to be taken in, there are additional rules but the basic game is that of 1830. Game length is therefore similar, maybe an extra 30 to 60 minutes longer.

The original idea came from Ingo Meyer and was published in an unknown (amateur?) German magazine / fanzine. Dirk Clemens (in Germany) then developed the game further and offered his version as a b/w photocopied gamekit. This required major assembly work and required use of most of the components from 1830. Chris has produced a new version of the Gamekit that includes an A2 (16" x 24") Map along with a separate A3 (12" x 16") Stock Market, both are full colour photocopies (which compare equally with the commercially produced 18xx games). You are required to already own 1830 beforehand to play 1899 (for the full 1830 rule set) but everything else has been supplied.

The gamekit comprises of:

As this is a gamekit, you will be required to cut out the components. The Map and Stock Market Table comes already trimmed to shape and folded to A4 size. It comes boxed (A4 bookcase size 2" high) and include ziploc bags and other such components. It is possible to use 1830 components (Tiles, Trains and Money) and thus reduce the number of items to be cut down to 1/3rd.

Until recently Chris also offered an Enhanced version of the 1899 Gamekit. This included the Map and Stock Market mounted onto board that folds down to A4 size (to still fit into the gamebox). These have been very popular but unfortunately he no longer can spare the time to assemble these. Much as he would like to continue offering the Enhanced version they take too much time and effort to prepare, so he will only make them to special order. Please enquire if you want further details on availability and cost.

Full Costs, this INCLUDES postage and packing (£ means UK Pound, approximately = $1.60)

Orders - Cash or cheques are acceptable.

US - Chris has now made arrangements with me for US orders to go through me. This result is a $4 or $5 saving as there will be no need to include the usual bank commission charges for cashing US cheques in the UK. Please send all US orders to me (and ensure all cheques are made payable to David Reed).

Europe - Eurocheques are the best method to pay as there no extra commission or charges when cashed.

Rest Of The World - Cheques will require a L4 overhead to pay for the UK bank commission to cash a non-UK cheque.
