Ireland - Connemara and Aran Islands Trip

I went on a trip around Connemara and the Aran Islands on the weekend of July 20, 2002. On my tour around Connemara, I was thinking I had finally found the Ireland that everyone thinks about - hills, mountains, bogs and rivers, and the odd castle or thatched house.

Connemara is the area just north of Galway, on the west coast of Ireland, and the Aran Islands are a 45 minute ferry off the coast. These two areas are the largest areas that are native Irish (Gaelic) speaking, with English as their second language, with around 30,000 people being brought up speaking Irish.

The Aran Islands are a group of three islands, Inis Mor, Inis Maan, and Inis Oirr (pronounced innish-more, innish-man, and innish-eer). Not very creative naming wise are the Irish, these names are gaelic for 'Big Island', 'Middle Island' and 'East Island'. :-)
