In Metal Gear Solid the gameplay takes on a new formula. Instead of the tried and true gameplay formulas, MGS has taken on the challenge of creating a game where stealth is necessary for survival. Solid must slip by guards, security cameras, and many other things. At times he squeezes into many tight spaces in order to stay hidden including crawling through air ducts and service tunnels. Of course all of these manuevers can better executed with the dual analog controler which MGS will be compatible with.
In the beginning of the game Solid starts out with no weapons. This is done to enforce the "stealth" object of the game. Without weapons Solid can only do simple punch and kick combos by repeatedly pressing the X button. If he can sneak up behing the enemy, Solid can put a strangle hold on the enemy by pressing the square button. From here he has two choices, break his neck by repeatedly pressing the square button or use him as a human shield by holding down the square button and moving around with the directional pad.
Crawling is done by pressing the circle button to crouch down. Once in a crouch, Solid can move around to sneak up on enemies and to crawl under trucks, desks, etc.
