Gandharvas

  • A Soap Bubble and Inertia (1994)
  • Kicking In The Water (1995)
  • Sold for a Smile (1997)

One of the most difficult of bands to label is the Gandharvas. Not pop, not alternative, perhaps closer to something termed "world-beat". The music for the most part is very upbeat with a multitude of overlaid melodies, instruments, and sounds. To the listener this can be confusing at times, but the music is so light that it is never threatening. I believe that "What!" magazine once wrote that if you get past the sometimes irritating lead vocals that you should be okay. What do they know? To be honest, the vocals tend to be unusual, to say the least, but they fit with the music. I find there music very inspirational and would recommend it to anyone with an open mind. I must add, however, that their most recent album, Sold for a Smile, has a different producer and a very different sound compared to the first two albums. It think the sound they went for was one of a live performance feeling.
