Jathalos ran down the hallway, fumbling around in the darkness. Even his
elven sight was not enough for this. Behind him he could hear the beast
snort, it was getting closer he thought.
He cursed himself silently as he leaped over the small chasm were Gundar
Hammerfist had plunged to his doom less tha one hour ago. It had seemed so
easy, go into the abandoned labyrinth, get the blade and go back to collect
a big fat reward. Nobody had mentioned anything about traps, curses, ghosts
or this horrible creature wich was now stalking him.
Jathalos came to a halt, he could not remember having been here, there was a
little light and the walls felt different. He was in a T-section and a
dilemma. Should he backtrack and risk running into whatever it was that was
hunting him, or should he go down one of the other halls, into completely
unexplored areas. In the end he decided to turn around, he drew his dagger
from his boot, cursing himself again for having left his sword behind when
he fled.
As he made his way slowly back he realised something, the labyrinth was
completely silent. He could no longer hear the snorting and growling of his
unseen pursuant. This did not make him one bit more at ease, Jathalos had
adventured long enough to know that even the stupidest creature knew the
value of an ambush.
As he rounded a corner he heard a noise ahead of him, like someone had
dropped something. Immediatly he stopped, and then realised his mistake. He
spun round and dropped to the floor just in time to avoid the axe that would
otherwise have decapitated him.
"Can't believe I almost fell for the old throw a rock trick" he thought to
himself as he dodged another blow and then stabbed with all his might. The
dagger went in to the hilt and he felt a powerful shaggy fur on the skin of
his assailant. Suddenly a sharp blow connected to his forehead and he
slumped into uncounsciousness, his last thoughts were terrified recallings
of what he had heard minotaurs did to their prisoners.
