Purple Trees

by Kelly Bradshaw

Timmy was sulking, his mother had sent him outside to play. He had wanted to play his Nintendo, with the new Star wars game, but his Mum had turned it off and told him to play outside and get some fresh air.
"It's not fair," he thought, as he tossed stones into the small stream that ran beside their new house, "I'm alone, alone here with no friends and I can't even play my stupid Nintendo!"
Timmy was soon out of stones and began rustling around in the long grass trying to find some more. As his hands scrabbled in the grass they brushed across something hard. His fingers began closing over the object, when he felt a zap run through his fingertips. Pulling his hand away and sucking on his finger tips, he peered into the grass. There nestled deep amongst the tangled roots was a shiny object.
More carefully this time, he picked the object up and started to brush of the dirt. The dirt was crusted deep in some places, but the object was interesting enough that Timmy carried it into the sunshine for a better look. It was roughly the size of a ruler and bronze where the colour showed through the dirt.
Sitting down and brushing off more dirt, Timmy noticed that it was carved with strange symbols.
"Wow!" thought Timmy, "Treasure, I might even be rich!"
He looked at the object, he would have to get it cleaner or his Mum would think it was junk and make him throw it away. Using his finger, he traced the shapes of the symbols, clearing away the dirt. As his finger ran along the symbols, he felt a warm tingling glow. It reminded him of lemonade, tickling your nose as you drank it. When he looked up, there in front of him was a glass of lemonade!
Now THIS was interesting! Where had it come from?
After some thought, Timmy came to the conclusion, that it had to have been his new treasure, because nothing like this had ever happened before!
He decided to test this idea, "Hmmm" he thought "What would NEVER happen in real life? A dog wearing clothes?, no...A lady with a beard?, no...that's it, Purple Trees!"
Having decided, he tried it. He traced his finger along each of the symbols and thought about purple trees so hard he thought his head would burst. He sat for a moment with his eyes closed, then peering through his fingers, he opened his eyes. What he saw made him jump up and stare. All the trees were purple, not just one or two or even all the ones in their yard, but every tree as far as he could see was bright purple!
"Oh dear" Timmy thought, "People are going to notice this! Ive got to turn them back."
He tried and tried and tried, until he was crying, he couldn't turn them back, what was he going to do?.......
His Mum, he would tell his Mum, she would fix everything. So he ran back towards his house as fast as his legs would take him. He tripped over a stone and started falling, but, instead of landing on the rocky ground he woke up in his warm bed with his Mum saying "It's okay sweetie it was only a bad dream.........."
