This page is about wine. I make, bottle and age my own. This is probably one of my "weirder" hobbies. See, I don't drink. Okay, maybe once a year on New Years, but even if I do, I never drink wine. I simply like the challenge of making it. Although I do have quite a few friends who drink and they end up with all of the wine I do make. Of course they all think this is a great hobby for me to practice. The lushes.
So far the varieties I have made are:

Kender Celebration Punch

A fruit punch wine made with apple, peach, pear, pineapple, and grapes. It has a real fruity flavor that isn't as overpowering as some I've had. I think this makes a real good desert wine.

Mint Wine

I have made my mint wine with spearmint, peppermint, and apple mint. I currently (as of 28 October 2002) have a batch of Kentucky Colonel Spearmint wine fermenting. Mint wine has a real delicate taste that food easily overpowers. I recommend drinking this wine by itself.

Raisin Jack

This one was a real trip to make. I used to be a Correctional Officer for the Illinois Department of Corrections at BMRCC. While working there I learned the recipe for "hooch". This is how the inmates at Big Muddy makes theirs.
You take 1 gallon of apple juice and put it into a five gallon bucket. Add one LARGE (half gallon size) can of peaches and the juice, 1 loaf of bread (for the yeast) 1 gallon of water, and two socks filled up and tied off full of raisins. Cover with plastic wrap and stash it somewhere where the Officers won't find it. After 6 or 7 days, the socks float and you know it's done. You can "buy" one pint of this stuff for a carton of smokes, or 2 boxes of honey buns.
I was curious so I made some. A little more sanitary than what the inmates do, but same recipe and time frame. Even if I was incarcerated for 20 years, and was a major, and I mean MAJOR, alcoholic, I still don't think I would drink this stuff. It was a fun project though.
