is for arbelog, a nasty sort of
creature with claws. Meriwythr's never fought
one, but he's seen arbelog claw gloves,
which he thinks are rather nice, though
he himself, being a gentleman, prefers
white silk gloves.

is for burrower, another nasty sort of
creature, but one that Meri's actually fought.
They're found in the hunting preserve
southwest of Crossing.

is for copper, the least valuable type
of coin in all of Elanthia's provinces,
and thus a color Meriwythr doesn't care for
too awfully much.

is for dryads, which were once Meriwythr's
favorite type of critter to hunt.
Since Meri has become rather adept with
his crossbow, they all run from him now.
Dryads live in the Endrus Forest, north
of Leth Deriel.

is for Elanthia, of course -- as in
Meriwythr Truefriend, Beloved Citizen of
Elanthia. E is also for Elf, the best
of all the races.

is for fluff, which is the word
used to describe anything worn by an
Elanthian which does not serve a practical
purpose. To get a good idea of
what constitutes fluff, one has only to
look at Meriwythr, who has trouble staying
upright due to voluminous amounts of fluff.

is for gwethdesuan, more commonly known
as gweth. Elanthians can speak to
each other telepathically while wearing a
gweth. Meriwythr likes the gweth because
he can use it to find out
who's selling those hard-to-find sparklies.
He also likes to use the gweth to
insult people who have been rude to him.

is for honour, without which there is
nothing. Meriwythr is one of the most
honourable fellows you could ever have the
good fortune to meet. This may seem
a bit odd, since Meri is also
a Thief, but it would be a mistake
to ever insult Meriwythr's honour. If you
did, Meriwythr would no longer feel that
you needed to be treated honourably, and
he would pick your pocket.

is for Illithi, the province south of
Leth Deriel. Meriwythr has the most frightfully
dashing tabard embroidered with gold Illithi
runes. He hasn't the faintest idea
what they mean, but the color sets
off his amber eyes quite nicely.

is for journey pack, a type of backpack
sold in Theren. Meriwythr likes to travel
up to Theren and buy several journey
packs, then come back to Crossing and
sell them at an absurd profit so
that he can buy more sparklies to
make himself even more dashing than he
already is.

is for kobolds, monsters which occasionally
invade Elanthian towns. Meriwythr witnessed
the tail end of a kobold invasion
once, but didn't get to kill any
kobolds because he was only first circle
at the time and still trying to
figure out how to load his crossbow.

is for Leth Deriel, a lovely Elven town
south of the Crossing. Meriwythr adores
Leth Deriel, though he spends most of his
time in Crossing chatting with his chums.
Actually, Meriwythr doesn't spend all that much
time with his chums, being too busy
raiding other people's pockets, but Meri doesn't
like to say 'stealing from people' because
he thinks the phrase sounds ungentlemanly.

is for Meriwythr Truefriend, Beloved Citizen of Elanthia.
M is also for minstrel, who once wandered
about town with an entourage of Thieves who
robbed him blind. This never seemed to
bother the minstrel too much. M is
also for Midvale, Meri's best friend, a S'kra
Mur lady who is, alas, no longer in
the Realms.

is for Naptha, a thoroughly nasty flammable
substance commonly found in traps. It's
also used in a horrid little spell
called Dragons' Breath, and can set victims
on fire. For this reason, Meriwythr tries
to be very polite to powerful mages.

is for ocarina, a musical instrument that
Meriwythr doesn't have. Someday Meriwythr plans
to be talented with all instruments,
but so far he owns only a
lyre and a tambourine. Meriwythr's
favorite place to practice on the lyre
or tambourine is on the ferry, because
then people can't run away and are
forced to sit and listen to him.

is for pockets, lovely little additions to
clothing which hold any number of coins
just waiting to be liberated by
Meriwythr's nimble fingers.

is for quiet, a word which doesn't
apply to Meriwythr at all; unless, of
course, he's sneaking about town practicing
his hiding skills, in which case
he can be extraordinarily quiet for
about five minutes.

is for riolur leaf, an herb which can
heal certain wounds. Meriwythr doesn't remember
which wounds it heals, but he carries
one around anyway, just in case. Some
people in Elanthia have silver latticework
riolur leaf pins, and Meri would like
one, too, but he hasn't been able
to afford one yet because he spent
half his money on his dashing tabard
embroidered with gold Illithi runes.

is for S'kra Mur, one of the races
of Elanthia. S'kra Mur are humanoid
creatures with lizardlike features.
Meriwythr's best friend, Midvale, is a
S'kra Mur. Meriwythr wishes that Midvale
was an Elf. He does not,
however, wish that he was a S'kra
Mur, because S'kra Mur have tails,
which Meri finds rather disconcerting.

is for Teiro, an Elven chap who
caused all sorts of trouble long ago,
and whom some people say returned a
while back to overthrow Elanthia, though
everyone seems to have forgotten about him.
Some Elves proclaimed themselves followers of
Teiro. Meriwythr found the whole Teiro business
rather boring, especially since rumor had it
that Teiro would attack during a Festival.
Meri thought that Teiro must be a bit
of a rotter if he planned to
spoil the Festival for everyone.

is for Urrem'tier, the God of the dead.
Meriwythr doesn't like to think about
Urrem'tier, so he doesn't.

is for Viper's Nest Inn, an unpleasant
hole-in-the-ground type place in the
western part of Crossing. Meriwythr
occasionally meets friends there, but he's always
careful to dust himself off when
he leaves.

is for Warrior Mage, one of the
Guilds of Elanthia. Meriwythr doesn't care
for the Warrior Mages because they cast
all manner of annoying spells and have
familiars which can track a person down.
Meriwythr doesn't like familiars at all,
and kicks them when no one is
looking.

is for xbow, a common abbreviation of
crossbow, one of Meriwythr's main weapons. He
has a gleaming silver crossbow which
invariably draws admiring glances. Meriwythr
likes to wave his crossbow around,
because then he can pretend the admiring
glances are for himself.

is for Yavash, one of the three moons of Elanthia.
Moon Mages use the three moons to
cast their horrid little spells. Meriwythr
has no idea how they go about
this, and doesn't care to know.
He likes the moonlight, though, because
he thinks moonlight is terribly romantic.

is for zillion, which is the amount
of platinum coins Meriwythr would someday
like to have in his bank account.
If he had that much, he could
buy any sparkly he wanted, and everyone
would be envious and would want
to be his friend.
