TWILIGHT
In twilight dreams she holds my hand in hers
My fingers trap her warmth. Her lips and mine
In solemn promise meet, proclaiming this
A love which e’en in darkest winter shines.My cheek against the roughness of the sheet
Is fooled, and feels the beating of her heart;
And rising from her chest, a scorching heat
Leaves burning on my face a crimson markWhich during daylight hours glows too bright;
Yet she, too blind, ignores the flaming red.
My days are filled with darkness, so at night
I seek the light with which my heart is fed.
I would that she could see my scarlet face;
I would with words I could her scorn erase.Meriwythr Truefriend
