people About En Garde!

In En Garde! a player finds himself born into and educated in a world where social climbing is a way of life, and status is a goal to be pursued over money. It is a world inhabited by Cyrano, Roxanne, Scaramouche, Errol Flynn, Porthos, Athos, Aramis, Rhonda Fleming, Francois Villon, Constance and, of course, D'Artagnan. There are people to be used, friends in high places to be cultivated, enemies to be humiliated, the Cardinal's Guard to be trounced, lackies to be abused, the hand of a fair damsel to be won, and the ear of the King to be gained.

Sharpen your sword...Sharpen your wit...Take care not to insult a small man with a large nose...All for one and one for all...Good luck, friend, and may your swash never buckle!

nobles About Arcadia

Arcadia is set in a semi-historical early 17th century France, with most events taking place in and around Paris. Louis XIII is King and ruler, though ministers and the Church also wield considerable influence. The nations of Europe are constantly involved in conflict over religion, territory, and other reasons less obvious to the casual observer. Duelling is a tolerated way of settling disputes between gentlemen, and although honour and status are paramount, corruption lies just below the surface. It is a time when those with ambition, talent and luck can achieve fame and fortune in the military, the government, the Church, as an explorer or merchant, in the arts and sciences, or just by being an active socialite.

The game is free, run through e-mail with support at this site, and for between 20 and 40 players. Each turn represents a month of game time, taking from 2-3 weeks real time. The En Garde! format has become a popular one for PBM games, but the use of e-mail and mailing lists facilitates communication and allows the game to have a more continuous feel. See the Beginner's Guide for further information.
