Lothar was a scholar and traveler before the Scourge and he amassed a great amount of knowledge as well as mastery of the Elementalist Discipline. Returning to the Thunder Mountains, Lothar became a member of the Council of Elders during the Scourge. The ancient members of the Council grew weary of their posts and by the last centuries of the Scourge only Lothar remained.
It was to Lothar alone that the Revelation of the
Life Rock came and he prepared in secret to act upon his
vision. Lothar personally trained Urthik Stonespeaker
subsequently and briefly, in Obsidiman terms, it seemed
that the Stonespeakers would reinstitute the leadership
lost with the Great Council. Rutegur's disappearance and
Urthik's occupation with the actions of the Therans in the
area left only Lothar in command. Unable to supervise
Lunk's education and besieged by concerns and
responsibilities, Lothar was prevented from attending to
the distant problems he foresaw.
When Rutegur received news of Urthik's passing he
returned to investigate and uncovered Theran treachery.
Rather than take his role as Stonespeaker he left to seek
vengeance and moved to force Lunk to take the position.
Lunk, however, was waiting for such an opportunity and
consolidated his support, pushing an isolationist policy.
His power diminished and his role as leader a thing of
the past, Lothar remained a respected member of the
community but possessed no real influence. With his
vision still unfulfilled, Lothar patiently awaits the
chance to make right what has gone wrong. And in the
secret emergence of a new Stonespeaker, the chance has
finally come.
