Rutegur Stonespeaker was the second Stonespeaker to emerge among the Obsidimen of the Thunder Mountains. Rutegur was to receive separate training in the Warrior discipline by Urthik Stonespeaker and Elementalism by Lothar the Elder before being taught diplomacy and negotiation skills to fulfill his purpose as Stonespeaker. While sitting a lonely vigil in the upper valley region in order to learn patience from the forest, Rutegur encountered an injured human who had stumbled across the hidden world of the Obsidimen. The man told of hardships and Horrors in the outside world. Unaware of his purpose and with training incomplete, Rutegur left with the Mage RoNal. Intending to return after investigating and lending aid, Rutegur instead found a purpose. Ignorant of the repurcussions of his act, Rutegur traveled over the whole of Barsaive eventually joining with a band known as the Blades of Dawn, whose adventures are written elsewhere.
The news of Urthik's Return brought Rutegur back to the Thunder Mountains and with the help of his companions he uncovered Theran activities in the area. Managing to calm the situation, Rutegur refused the mantle of leadership, instead letting it fall to Lunk. Since that fateful day, Rutegur has sought revenge against the Theran Empire.
Involved in an abortive war effort and then an ongoing attempt to counter several Theran plots in Barsaive, Rutegur has traveled the whole of the land seeking a means to drive the Therans out once and for all.
