Chapter 1: "A New Trail Emerges"
written by
Andrew D. Carter

using I.C.E.'s supplement "NIGHTMARES OF MINE".

Relaxing after their last mission, Dinwen and Dirk muse thoughtfully on what has happened. Their times together in Arthedain now seem a distant memory, although only months have passed. Their horror of entering the realm of the dead appears to be waning, but only just. Their lives now are forever changed. The old party has split up. Each one's soul tainted by their foul experience. Each one more than ever determined to hunt down and destroy forever the mastermind behind "The Games of the Dead".
Now Dinwen has returned to her ancestral home with a companion, whom now she has grown quite close to. They have been invited back by the elven King of Mirkwood, King Thranduil. His kingdom and influence is now smaller than ever. The Shadow of the Necromancer is spreading further and further north in Mirkwood, choking his people. The King heard of Dinwen's return. Maybe she is the one to lead? Why risk more scouts on that accursed keep? The King will never forget the look on the lone survivor's face when he returned. Weak and white, all he could say was "death" over and over again until his own a few days later. Thranduil was grave. "Wasn't this just a simple brigand's keep? Obviously not. Summon Dinwen and this companion of hers. Now!"
The year is T.A. 1643, in "Greenwood the Great", now aptly called "Mirkwood".
