Loa

Loa are disembodied spirits. Some of them are very powerful, and generally the older they are (ie the longer since they died) the more powerful they are. Some of them are so powerful they have almost taken on the aspects of gods and their origin is long forgotten.

Below is the loa of Grandpére Ubu - once a famous bocor and now a very powerful loa. When he was alive, he was noted for his love of strong drink and young girls. Many a young lady slipped off into the night and up the path to his hut, returning in the morning with no sure knowledge of where they had been or what they had done, until one night, returning drunken from a party, Grandpére Ubu was decapitated by a cuckolded swain. It is known that Grandpére Ubu could make people do just about anything and (when not blind drunk at least) was on good terms with the Baron. As a loa, he can still teach spells on breaking wills and sending bad dreams or making people see things that aren't there , and he has much knowledge of history and things buried.

The best way to summon him is to invite him to a party - drumming, spilled rum, roasting meat and dancing are certain to draw his attention. He is not a quiet guest though - he demands a body for the night, plenty to drink and pretty girls. He is a mean drunk too - if he gets riled, things are likely to get broken. If he is refused a body, he's very likely to try and seize one. Since he is hampered by having to take "affects solid, +2" on his spells, he can only generate a 3d6 mind control, so he's likely to try for someone who is incapacitated by drink, or looks ornery enough to *want* to be a host for a loa. If he can get a body then he only has to buy "usable by one other" (+1/4) so that his possessed body can throw spells. Then watch out! If he is overmatched by a bocor, he'll either try to bargain with spells and knowledge, or (normally) simply sink into the earth and disappear.

If he does condescend to teach spells, he can teach spells of enchantment or treasure-finding up to 45 active points.
