Masu
Masu's full name is Murazawa Masu, but she never uses it. Born the
daughter of a bushi, she fled her family rather than be forced into
marriage with a much older man, whom she considered low status. She
soon found life in the nearby city of Shirakawa much harder than she
had expected. Without family to support her, she ended up working in
an inn, playing the biwa and occasionally selling her body.
However, one night, a drunken patron attempted to force himself on
her, and she stabbed him to death with his own knife. Osawa knew her
from frequenting the inn, and moved by a generous whim, he helped her
escape the city. It turned out to be a better move on his part than
he suspected. Although as the daughter of a bushi, Masu received
cursory weapons training, she turned out to have natural aptitude for
the bow, and with plenty of practice is now a deadly shot. She is
also quick and strong - her male companions have learned to treat her
like one of themselves.
Masu is quiet and speaks little - in part because she has a severe
stammer - and she never complains. She has long black hair and a
round, somewhat plain face - the only time she seems animated is when
she is attempting to put an arrow into somebody. Then, she actually
looks like she is having a good time.
The other assassins in the gang are Ujikiyo,
Takaai, and Osawa.
Although they work well together and will take some risks for one
another, they are by no means faithful comrades. If things go all to
hell, they wil seek to escape rather than risk their lives to save
one another.
