Saburo

Saburo is an independent warrior, far from young, but not yet beyond his peak of strength. He has broad experience in battle, although too often on the losing side. He has been ronin for some time. His skill with the sword and weapons of war is good enough to make him an asset to any army, but he is not truly an expert or at the high level of a duelist.

He does not serve anyone, nor does he care to serve any man. His karma lies in the journey and the sword. He does not offer his sword for money. He does not seek justice. He seeks truth and understanding, but it does not compel him to act if the moment does not draw him. In that, he is passive. He wanders, on foot, and if actions involve him, he participates, for that is his karma.

He seeks to avoid passion, for that obscures judgement. He seeks to avoid politics, for truth transcends any rule or law. He values beauty, just as he values the abhorrent. His respect mirrors his perception of what he sees, so that he may respect an enemy much as he might disdain an ally. He is not above sharing his views, but only if asked, or only if he is involved with the moment and his understanding is closer to the truth as he sees it. And he is not above learning, for none would be living if understanding was not still needed.

While he has been in battle and seen widespread slaughter, the moments he treasures most are those of the Iajitsu. One man facing the other. Senses razor sharp, eyes of one deep into the eyes of the other. He believes that more is learned in this instant, from life, from his opponent and teacher, from himself beyond himself, than at any other time he has ever lived.
