(vinyl deterioration spots) This is a type of fungus that feeds on the vinyl. High humidity is a breeding ground for the fungi, therefore, airtight containers, or bags, are NOT a good idea. These types of containers actually promote high humidity, no air circulation. It seems to attack the softer vinyl. On Strawberry's I am refering to their arms, legs and head, as opposed to the hard vinyl torso. And remember, the pets seem to be the same softer vinyl! I have seen two pets so far, with this pitiful condition! Keeping the dolls clean, and in a controlled environment, can help fend off these fungi. click on the pics for a better look. Update! REMOVE-ZIT Remove-zit, a product from Twin Pines, inc, does in fact KILL the fungus, and remove the stain from our beloved vinyl dolls. The product runs about $8 plus shipping, and is very easy to order. Do so by going to their webpage (twinpines.com). They also have other wonderful products for the cleaning and upkeep of your favorite collectables. This very product is also good for removing other kinds of evil little spots on the dolls, such as ink. Now the consistancy of this product is very sticky and gooey (reminds me of paste), as was to be expected. After all, we DO want it to be thick enough to ONLY go where we want it to and not run down the legs:) But even so, it is a PAIN to apply. LOL Some of my worse off dolls required MANY applications to remove the vds. After applying, you must leave the doll sit for a day or so. Then scrape it off, and reapply if necessary. Let me just say that in the case of EVERYONE of my problem dolls and pets it was necessary to reapply again, and again, and again. LOL All of that work was worth it, however, in the end:) Also, you all SHOULD know that occasionally, when the dark spots were removed, I was left with faded marks on the plastic:( I am assuming that those poor guys were among the most diseased. This was very seldom the case, though. The majority of my guys are disease free, healthy, clean and happy! Also, this stuff is deadly! The smell is awful, and it took my nail polish right off. LOL You DO need to be extra careful around the paint on the faces, and the pets. Ask a poor little Custard I have, he is now spotless, poor little guy. All in all this product is a THUMBS UP! It performs it's function, and the directions are easy to read, understand, and follow. Stay tuned for some before and after shots I will be working on! |
