Chapter 2: Meeting with Lady Mitan!
-----The Eighth of Greentide, D.Y. 500
-----The next morning, Kazel and Gimplefwick awake to find Seth sleeping on one of the other couches in the front room. Marast stretches as he stands up from the wall he slept against while Runik bounds up out of a padded chair and dashes off to the room where Brandel spent the night.
-----As they wait, the rogues can see through the window that although it remains cloudy outside, the rain has completely stopped.
-----In a few moments, the dwarf returns with a happy expression. "Brandel be lookin' better!" Runik says, "We be movin' on t'day or we restin' 'ere a bit?"
-----Seth looks around and is surprised to see Runik and hear that Brandel is safe. He looks at Runik and asks, "Tell me what happened to you, how is Brandel better? Is the wagon ok?"
-----The Dread Pirate looks alert as Seth asks about the wagon and the loot hidden therein. In reply to Runik, Dread says, "Looks like we'll be stayin here for a bit anyways. We may have job lined up fer ourselves. Don't know anymore than that though. I expect we'll be gettin details today."
-----To answer Seth, the dwarf begins, "A'ter we left ye back in th' village o' them weret'ings, we headed off down th' road tills we comes t' this here village. With a sick one in the waggin like what Brandel was n' enuff loot t' keep people from askin' too many questions, we waz able to find this here inn goodly enuff! 'Course havin' Krord wi' us didn't hurt none either!"
-----Looking at the door to Brandel's room, Runik adds, "Th' lad shore waz lookin' pitiful whens we gots here. I kept a'checkin' on 'im through th' night, but today's he's awake n' feelin' up to snuff, me thinks."
-----"But Cap'n!" Runik says with a whisper, "how's 'bout yer cursies ye be bearin'? Should we be a'lookin' fer a priest or two?"
-----The Dread Pirate scowls at the mention of his curses and replies, "Aye, we'd best not forget my curses. I doubt we'll find a priest of any ability in this little hamlet though. Still, it wouldn't hurt to check. At least we might be able to get Brandel healed up a bit more."
-----Seth looks at Dread and shrugs, "Well, we all took some more bites and scratches, but if it is true that if you kill the beast that harmed you, you are cured, then we should all be cured. If not, maybe next full moon we will all change into beasts."
-----Runik shudders at the thought of his employers becoming werebeasts. The dwarf then turns toward the raggedy looking wood elf and admonishes him, "Ye thinks ye be relievin' Krord? I be a'bettin' th' lad be a bit starved by now."
-----Marast glares once at Runik and then charges out the door.
-----Runik then turns back to the Dread Pirate and asks, "How is it yer t' git yer details fer yer job ye be offered?"
-----The Dread Pirate looks momentarily bewildered and replies, "I have no idea. If I had to guess, I'd say through osmosis. But that might be askin too much. Maybe we'd best just go see the lady."
-----Runik frowns at the Dread Pirate's statement. It is evident that the dwarf is deep in thought. Suddenly his face lightens as he asks Gimplefwick, "Oz Moses? Th't wouldn' be ol' Ozzy what werked th' mines in Morten, would it? He werked wi' me grandpappy n' they says they finally had to let 'em go. Seemed he waz a'grabbin' bats offa the ceilin's n' bitin' their head off!"
-----The dwarf shakes his head with a smile in some long ago fond memory and then asks the Dread Pirate, "Ye su'pose I's kin go along wit' ye when ye meets up wit' 'em? I'd sure like to be seein' th' Ozzy."
-----Just then Krord strides into the room and looks down at the collection of meat brought by Seth last night and the left over food Runik and the other boarders had ordered.
-----Seth turns a slight tinge of green at the mention of bats, and begins to squirm at the talk of biting their heads off. When Krord begins eyeing the meat he is in danger of spraying the meat with vomit.
-----The Dread Pirate nods sagely and replies, "Aye, that's the one exactly. But ye can barely understand Ozzy anymore. Since he got older, he's degenerated into speaking gibberish. And not very good gibberish at that."
-----One of the bedroom doors opens and Brandel staggers through it. The young mercenary then finds his way to a chair and sits down, holding his head. Brandel's clothes look a bit ripped where the previous night's battle had taken their toil and his arm remains heavily bandaged, however his face looks less fevered.
-----Regardless, Brandel shakes his head and mutters, "I think I got up too quickly. My head feels a bit too light."
-----He then takes a long drink from a mug of ale Krord hands him.
