-----Sol’s next attack bounds off his foe’s shield but then cleaves through chainmail to find flesh. With one more telling thrust, Sol’s opponent is suddenly shouting orders to attack while the man seems to try to back his horse away from the fray with Sol and Thunder.
-----Sol is aware of Strolum and Dilton fighting heartily at his side and about ten soldiers rushing on foot from the camp.
-----Sol was loathe to allow the enemy's commander escape, so he pressed on with his attack. Thunder drives forward, unmindful of any that get in their way to ensure the Stormrager would see this foe's life end. He did glance around quickly to ensure he knew where the other two mounted enemy were.
-----Just then Sol suddenly finds the other two riders wedging in toward him. Each one appears to meet the Gorian at an angle with Sol’s opponent between them. In this way, it appears that the rider is able to back away as the two other riders force in front of Sol.
-----Sol is quickly able to land telling blows against both riders and his new opponents fail to strike him. One, however, succeeds in parrying the Lathanian blade!
-----Strolum and Dilton continue to fight some of the soldiers that rush up on foot. An awful commotion alerts Sol that Dilton has suddenly been struck from his saddle.
-----As Sol’s original opponent pulls back from the two riders now fighting Sol, he yells, “We need a rider! Warn the caravans to the west that bandits attack our wagons!”
-----In a fury, Sol unleashes himself at the riders that separate him from the “leader”. Violently, he stabs to his left hurting one of the riders in the shoulder. Drawing his sword to the right, he slashes into the other man’s chest. Turning his sword, he arcs it again to the left in an overhead swing and smashes down on the rider’s helm. In return, his two opponents miss him, although one comes dangerously close to the Gorian’s neck.
-----Now more of the soldiers on foot race up, swinging wildly at him and his steed. Sol realizes some of these foes could get lucky and injure Thunder. With the closeness of the attackers, Thunder starts to snort in anger.
-----Off to his left, Strolum has dismounted partly to help the fallen Dilton. Both warriors are up although Strolum seems to be faring the better as he stabs into one of his attackers.
-----With a hearty yell, Sol is aware of two more riders coming from behind. Sol’s recognizes the yell of Pil as the big man and the mage from Ravenhold arrive. Pil immediately dismounts and runs to enter the fray while a few magic missiles slam into some of the footmen.
-----“Archers!” the leader yells into the darkness, “they have a mage!”
-----Thunder was a fighting horse; battle was what Sol's faithful steed was trained for. As loathe as he was to see his mount injured, it was a risk that needed to be taken. The commander was no longer Sol's first priority. As Sol levels his next attacks at the more injured of the two riders who opposing him, the Gorian also kept his senses alert for the rider the commander had called up. He would need to be prepared to give fast chase at a moment’s notice.
-----As he swung at his opponent, he called to his companions, "Fall back in order, if necessary." Try as he did, he could not mask the fury in his voice. He had never intended for Jyan to leave the wagons. His order was followed by a bellow of rage at the foot soldiers who threatened him.
-----Furiously, Sol drives two blows toward his opponent to his left. The man groans as the Lathanian sword connects about his shoulder and chest areas. Paling somewhat in the moonlight, the rider tries to keep his guard up though it is evident he is releasing his control of his own steed. Around Sol a tide of swords appears to close on him when Thunder suddenly neighs and rears up thrusting out his hooves in anger. This causes all of his attackers to momentarily back up in surprise. When Thunder comes back down, he moves toward the most stricken of Sol’s mounted opponents. This allows Sol a chance to swing at what could be a killing slash at the man. Alas, the sword swoops the air in front of the man’s face.
-----“Bring them down!” the leader screams as the footmen pause before the stallion. Now somewhat behind him, Sol can detect Strolum, Dilton and Pil engaging more of the soldiers in swordplay.
-----A few yards behind the mounted leader, a mounted rider takes to the road and charges down it to the west! As the rider leaves, a small company of men bearing drawn bows races out from the tents. As they run out into the road, they pause staring at the melee.
-----“Draw back!” the leader suddenly shouts to the footmen in battle. He then barks orders at the archers beside him.
-----Every instinct of Sol's screamed out to chase down the rider, to do anything to prevent such a precipitous escape. Yet he could not leave his companions behind, with the threat of being overwhelmed dangerously present. He cursed loudly as his voice rang out a clear order, "Press th' assault, close combat. Don't give th' bowmen a clear target."
