Final Fantasy VII: Duel of the Fates

Chapter 8

Aeris stared at the great stars above outside her window, with her head full of things. Her friends, the Planet, Sephiroth, and....

"Aeris?"

She spun her head towards to door. It was Cloud.

His handsome face lit up mystically with the rays of the moon. His glowing Mako influenced eyes glowed luminously in the dark room. Aeris could sense the uncertainty in his voice. "What is it, Cloud?" Aeris replied, as she turned her back towards the stars.

"Aeris, i don't want you to go alone. Let me fight with you, at least." Cloud said firmly. Aeris shook her head. "Cloud, don't you understand? Its my destiny to stop him myself! I couldn't let you be involved!" "Then do you understand me??" Cloud protested, pulling Aeris towards him, with their faces almost touching. "Don't you understand my feelings?? Aeris??" Cloud looked at her with his soulful eyes, as his voice croaked with disparity. Aeris closed her eyes and looked away.

"Cloud... its not i don't comprehend your..."

"Then why?" Cloud interrupted harshly. "Why must you go through all by yourself? Why don't you share your pain with me? Let me be at your side... Aeris! Don't be like last time..." Cloud paused as he touched her tender face. "Not like last time!" He whispered, as he flicked a few fine strands of hair away from her beautiful face.

Aeris could feel her eyes welling up with tears.

True, she was afraid and lonely. She wished someone would share her pain with her... would hold her tenderly and lavish her with loving and warm kisses, and to be by her side for eternity...

"No... NO!" Aeris shook her head furiously. "Cloud... i have to go by myself..."

"Aeris?"

"I'm sorry Cloud. This is my fate. I have to go through this no matter what." Aeris replied firmly, clutching her fists. Cloud smiled bitterly, as he began to look away.

"Aeris..."

"I'm sorry. I want to be alone." Aeris said coldly as she returned her gaze onto the dark skies.

"Aeris...?"

"Go now!" Aeris ordered angrily. Cloud was stunned. Never had Aeris shouted at him before. Tears began to roll down to his smooth cheeks. He wiped away his tears huskily and turned.

"Good night, Aeris." He choked between his tears as he walked towards the door.

"My love..." A wispy whisper hissed, unknown to Aeris, as Cloud closed the wooden door silently as he left. As soon as that, Aeris collapsed onto the floor, putting her hands onto her forehead. She was crying uncontrollably. Her heart longed to be with Cloud, but she kept telling herself that she was long dead and having him to love her was just completely wasting his time. Tears that were as clear as pearls rolled down from her eyes and splashed onto the glittering surface of the Holy materia. Aeris sighed heavily as she leaned against the wall.

"Is my destiny meant to be like this?"

Back in the cold and foggy Northern Crater, Sephiroth was still looking through the realm, examining the situation between Cloud and Aeris. Sephiroth traced Cloud's face and laughed. He spreaded out his magnificent dragon wings, and flicked the strand of hair away from his sharp face.

"Its about time..."
