Beating your opponent in the long run.
Get 20 villagers and put 5 on each resource. That way when your opponent exhausts his resources you will have plenty. -- Nate_is_1
On the First Things to Do at the Start of the Game
In Death Match games, build at least six town centers from the beginning of the game. Get a lot of villagers and start getting resources early in the game. That way when your opponent runs out of resources he will have to gather while you can attack him. -- neverclear7
I have found that in Death Match, the best way to start is to take the first three villagers and build two other town centers besides the one you already have. Then, create another villager and have him start to build a storage pit, granary, government center, and a market. While the other villagers are finishing the town centers, take the original villagers and build your basic attacking unit. There should be villagers coming out of the other town centers and they should be put on building the granary, market (etc.). -- AngeLBloODKing
In Death Match build towers behind barracks so your oppenents' legions can't get to them! -- Gnome
If you are playing Death Match on an inland map, at the start of the game, send two villagers across to your enemy's side of the map. Then depending on the tribe, you should build either siege workshops or stables. Build them either in front of the causeways or on the other side of the river dividing the map. This will stop the enemy attacking you, and you will be within close striking distance of their base. You should normally win using this tip! -- Raptor_102
On Death Match Rushing
In the beginning of the game, build the building you get your rushing unit from and start upgrading right away. When done, build a row of town centers and crank out the villagers quickly. Get at least one villager and put lots of your buildings everywhere except in the area you intend to rush. If the opponent is not an expert, he won't have any military to stop you and villagers can't attack your unfinished buildings. I recommend that you begin placing your buildings closest to the opponent. Because when built, it frustrates your opponent and takes them a long time to be destroyed by sentry towers, rather than unfinished ones. Don't wait for everything to get finished. Start production ASAP! -- CAC_S_Voyager
On Death Match AntiRush
To defend against a rush, first build and research the stuff you intend to defend and begin upgrading right away. Second, build at least one archery range or military unit and send them out into the open area you intend to claim and fight for. When done, build a lot of town centers in a row to start cranking out the villagers. Get at least one villager to work on your houses.
If there is a river separating you from your opponent(s) immediately put up a wall so it blocks all the entrances. Usually the opponent will put all his unfinished stuff on your side then send the villagers over. So when the opponent's villagers bump into the wall they can't get through. But your wall could go down if not defended. In the meanwhile, when you see your opponent's villagers at your wall, you know he's got stuff on your territory, so get your archers to search and destroy them.
By this time, most upgrading should be almost done and you should have lots of villagers and started some resource production. Depending on what civilization that tried to rush you, build the correct units to fight them off. If there isn't a river, you must depend on the archers to destroy any enemy unfinished buildings that are close to you before the villagers arrive to get to work on them. If the enemy gets by you and has captured a lot of your land, find an open area and build your military there. All in all, the best thing is experience and learning from your mistakes and studying ways to combat them. -- CAC_S_Voyager
On Choosing Civilizations for Death Match
If you are Choson in Death Match and you like to rush, this is a good strategy. First, take one guy and build another town center, make two guys, build three other town centers, and have one guy build a barrack, temple, storage pit, government center, and granary. When your other guy comes out of the town center, build barracks everywhere on your opponent's property while simultaneously creating more guys in your town center. And just keep building more barracks. -- blackdeath33
My strategy for Death Match is no siege workshops. If you use Yamato, Minoan, or Phoenician, always use their special units. For example, Minoan has a strong composite bowman. Get to an open area as soon as possible and start building archery ranges. So you can stop the enemy rush, if your opponent is doing one! -- FX_SL_Blade
