Katie Holmes was born in Toledo, Ohio on December 18, 1978 as the youngest of five children. Her father is a lawyer and her mother is a homemaker. Katie attended the all-girls Catholic high school Notre Dame Academy. She was accepted by Columbia University, but decided to defer for a year. She is currently 19 years old.
Katie currently performs in the television series Dawson's Creek as Joey Potter, a character not too unlike herself. When she tried out for the role of Joey, she had mailed in a videotape to the producers of Dawson's Creek. However, when the callback audition confilicted with the opening night of her high school production of Damn Yankees, she had to decline the audition. Fortunately, the audition was rescheduled and she landed the role.
Her acting career includes the movie Ice Storm (1997), the television series Dawson's Creek, and the movies Disturbing Behavior (1998), Go! (1998), and Killing Mrs. Tingle (1998).
