When Belle was 15, she took a hike, and didn't return that evening. She eventually staggered into a search party a day and a half later after being violently ill. Other than dehydration, exposure and the after effects of her illness, she was okay, and went about her everyday life.
She had caught an alien tailored virus, which altered her genetic structure. These aliens had crashed landed in the vicinity around 250 years earlier. Their craft was biologically powered, a "uniform acceleration field" field" produced by a type of livestock was amplified and usedd to propel the ship. The livestock didn't survive the crash.
The aliens worked to develop a virus that would modify the native moose or deer into producing the same field. They eventually succeeded, took a small herd of deer with them and left the planet.
However, one of the prototype viral agents escaped, and survived in local rodents (no effect though). Belle managed to get infected with it. It took a couple of years for it's powers to manifest themself, and she kept her powers a secret, not wanting to be some sort of "freak". The field allows her to move at incredible speed without acceleration effects ripping the flesh from her bones. She could run nearly at the speed of sound and turn on a dime while doing so. More amazingly, she could perform the actions of 50 people in the space of a second.$
$Game Mechanics make this impossible, or at least WAY too expensive to be brought into anything remotely resembling a reasonable point value game. This is the special effect for her DR. Swatting aside a stream of machinegun bullets or making "additional" dodges, etc. The exact nature of her damage reduction is based on the type of attack being made: An explosion might be countered by spinning at superspeed, or generating a wall of air pressure that blunts 16 pts of damage. She might reach down and throw loose soil into the air repeatedly to diffuse Laser Machine gun fire, etc.
McDaniel graduated from high school, got a degree in accounting, and became an accountant for the firm of Perez, Madden, & Madden. She occasionally used her speed to get to work when late, but otherwise rarely used it and NEVER discussed it.
Then her supervisor died trying to get into a burning neighbor's home to rescue two children trapped inside. His death really affected her. she could have rescued those kids. Her power was good for something besides getting to an elevator door before it closed. Still not wanting to be a "freak", she adopted a mask and costume and became "Ms. Motion".
At first, she followed fire department calls. But Wind Blast is a dubious power to use around fires. Nor could she be that effective in rescuing people. Her strength is hardly Olympian. Anyone over 180 lbs weighs more than she can carry, though she could and did manage to locate people who needed rescue.
She eventually learned that she could use these powers effectively against the local criminal element and was instrumental in shutting down a mob operation that supplied weapons to local street gangs, a fact that put her on the mob's hit list.
Battle Tactics: She generally uses her wind blast first, preferably while invisible. This is generally enough to take out normal criminals and low DR supers. Fighting while invisible may be unfair, but she's been hit a couple of times, and DOESN'T LIKE IT.
[Game note: her invisibility, high turn rate and move (224 yds/turn works out to a Step of 56 yds) allow her to be at virtually ANY hex on the map during a combat.
Unless the critical vision check above is made, her last known position is a MEANINGLESS bit of data to her foes.
She will avoid HTH if possible. She took some self defense training, got the moves down, but knows her best punch has the power of a creampuff.
Personality: Prior to becoming Ms. Motion, Belle Mc Daniel was a fairly ordinary, if self centered, young woman. Still is for the most part. She enjoys the perks of being a hero. The first life she saved left her feeling a high that reached Alpha Centuri.
She's been in the hero business long enough to have gotten over the jitters of running around in a set of tights, and is starting to really enjoy the occasional "puff-piece" article in a newspaper or magazine. (To date she hasn't had any serious negative publicity, but that's only a matter of time.) She's also seen what the victims of crime and disaster face and really wants to protect the common person from such calamities.
She's also led a relatively sheltered life. She may have the know how to find information on the streets, but the harsher realities she finds there still shock her a little.
