- Save any stars or ghosts you get for the last two waves of Thwomps. If you hit your ghost or star right as you approach the set of two Thwomps that drop down, you will pass through them as well as the set of three Thwomps, AND after traversing the hallway, your invulnerability will still be active, enabling you to bypass the two Thwomps swinging back and forth in the next room.
- On 150cc, be very careful when you reach the stairs leading down into the inner castle. If you do not go down these stairs head first (ie. if you approach the stairs at an angle), you will spin out and lose time. Often, if this happens on the stairs, you'll get trapped in a corner, and you'll really be hard pressed to catch up. Go down the stairs straight, and you'll have no problems.
- Go over all of the bridges straight. If you wobble as you cross the bridge, and even if you don't fall into the lava, you may still spin out as you leave the bridge.
- On the big, sloping incline which takes you to the final portion of the track, you will gain time if you powerslide up, even if you hit the walls a few times. If you use the other method to go up the incline (ie. braking), you won't hit the wall, but you'll also be going so slow that others who are powersliding will pass you.
- (From Mistern64@aol.com) Save bananas and fake item boxes for the incline mentioned above. Stategically placed bananas are difficult to avoid, and will cause other karts to fall into the lava. Also, when playing on 4-player, save your lightnings until you notice that the other racers are approaching the jump off the incline.

- There must be a way to free the imprisoned Thwomp. I've heard various rumours, from getting under a certain time on the first lap, to destroying all of the other Thwomps with a star. Even if freed, though, what is the function of this Thwomp? Is it a "good" Thwomp, that clears all of the other Thwomps away? Maybe he opens up a secret passage, since there are none found as yet on this track.
