"Here There Be Vampires"

The Adventure

Chapter 2 - Nolan Edwards

The posse meet Nolan Edwards and have a chat about vampires, but is he a bloodsucker himself?

Assuming the posse want to meet Edwards then play this chapter in the Gordon Hotel lobby, where Nolan is waiting for them. Alternatively Nolan will bump into them on the street and asks to talk with them.

Nolan Edwards is an impressive looking man, despite his advanced years, and wears what appears to be preachers garb. He beckons you closer and talks in a low voice...
"I've heard of you fellows before, that's why I brought you here, I need your type to help me in my fight against...evil. Do you know what's going on in this town? People are dying that's what, and I've got to stop it. Last week the Mayor and his wife were killed, nobody knows exactly how and by whom - exept for me. Do you believe in Vampires, my friends? They killed the Mayor, oh yes, nobody wants to admit it but they secretly think so too. Especially now that poor Sally Anne was killed last night in this very hotel, by the same hellspawned Vampire that killed the Mayor and his wife. Now people are getting scared and I have to destroy this creature of darkness before it kills again. Any of you that help me will be paid of course, and if the creature is destroyed then you will get a bonus. I hunt at night, like my prey, and you can be my eyes and ears during the daylight hours...are you with me?"

The posse will no doubt want to know more and Nolan will tell them he already knows who the Vampire is, he just needs concrete proof before he acts, he doesn't want to risk killing a human being after all. He will tell the posse all he knows about Jacky O Neill - that he travels around a lot, was here when the murders happened, spent time with Sally Anne, and shows all the hallmarks of being a Vampire. Nolan doesn't know, however, that Jacky is a Huckster and simply prefers to be active at night. He did spend time with Sally Anne, in fact the Huckster spends a lot of time with whores.
If the posse ask about the "bonus" then Nolan promises them $100 each if the evil in this town is vanquished forever, and $15 each per day that they help him before that.
If they ask him for advice he will tell them exactly how to destroy Vampires: sunlight (sometimes), stake through the heart, fire, beheading, holy water (sometimes) but stresses that all Vampires are different and that not all methods are a surefire way of destroying them. He then urges the posse to spend as little time with him as possible as Jacky already knows Nolan is following him. He states that Jacky O Neill spends his evening gambling in Greely's saloon across the road and usually retires with a "lady" in the small hours - he suggests the posse get cracking now.

NOTE - try to play up the fact that Nolan may be more than a bit mad and also that he is slightly sinister himself, the idea is to get the posse as suspicious and paranoid as possible about everybody they meet, eventually they won't even trust their own horses...
