Dungeon Keeper
Torture Dungeon
Level 1 Trainer Secrets
Play with all rooms, spells, doors, traps, creatures, and heroes available; set up your own battle scenarios!
Torture Chamber - a room you build for interrogation and punishment of heroes or creatures and to attract a Dark Mistress. A victim gets only one type of torture out of several possibilites on the torture table.
Torture Dungeon - where the imprisoned Lord of the Land goes at the end of a play level; or in a multi-player game, where the loser goes. The winner chooses as many as nine doors to hear the torture being carried out.
Introduction
In Dungeon Keeper, you take the role of the evil opponent defending against the Forces of Good. A torture chamber is one of 14 rooms which you can build in your dungeon. When you have a torture chamber, a Dark Mistress will join your forces. She enjoys pain and inflicting it on others.
Heroes and enemy creatures are tortured until their resistance is broken down at which time they convert to your side OR they die and turn into a Ghost.
A Possess Creature Spell is available so that you can view anything in the dungeon from a first-person perspective.
There are over 20 levels of play; you can win a level by defeating the Lord of the Land. If you have captured and imprisoned him, a special Torture Dungeon is opened.
However, the Torture Dungeon is not available until you have a Prison (Level 5). The torture chamber and Dark Mistress do not appear until Level 6. Vampires arise from graveyards which are not available until Level 8.
Torture Dungeon level edit
There is a way to get to the torture dungeon as well as getting all other resources on the first level by editing the Map00001.txt file. This change only affects the first level; regular play continues when you advance to the second level.
- Copy the \levels and \ldata directory files from the CD-ROM to your hard drive under the KEEPER directory.
If you are short on HD space, don't load the 3 *.smk files in the ldata directory or any *map*03.* or higher files.
- Edit the Keeper.Cfg file to point to your hard drive directory instead of the CD-ROM Drive:
Change
INSTALL_PATH=D:\KEEPER\
to
INSTALL_PATH=C:\Program Files\Bullfrog\KEEPER\
Change it back to D:\KEEPER\ when you want to restore normal game playing for Level 1.
- Download a modifed Map00001.txt file (12 KB) to the \levels subdirectory; which makes available all rooms, spells, doors, traps, creatures, and heroes. Creatures are attracted by certain rooms or conditions. In this script file, heroes are attracted when guard posts are added to your dungeon. Using Aexia's Script Command List as a guide, you can create your own game script.
Also Download a modified text.txt file (44 KB) to the \data subdirectory which changes the objective and information messages on the Pop-up icon for the modified Level 1 script; the other levels are not changed. Rename it text.dat (ISP does not allow uploading of *.dat files!).
- Start a new game. Click on the red T flag to enter the first land.
- Use the Create Imp Spell to add about 20 more imps to speed building. Dig out a path north from the Dungeon Hearth to the Portal.
- Rooms are efficient when built as squares of 3x3 surrounded by walls with a 1 tile doorway to the next room.
- Build a Treasure Room west of the Dungeon Hearth; Lair - east (where you dug the gold); Torture Chamber (9 tiles to attract a Dark Mistress) to east of Treasure Room, Hatchery north of Torture Chamber, and Prison north of Hatchery. Follow the game script and build one room at a time. Later for faster play, lay out all the room spaces to allow your imps to dig and claim the space with red central dots before laying room tiles.
- After building the Prison go to the Information Panel (Press the <1> key) and select the Imprison icon <III> so that heroes won't be killed during a battle. Don't add a guard post until you are ready.
- Heroes appear in a hidden room north of the Prison. Dig out a tunnel to connect your dungeon to this room.
- An optional Graveyard (30 tiles) can be built south of the Torture Chamber if you want a Vampire. Other rooms are also available but not required for this script.
- Wait until your imps have claimed the hidden room, all your other rooms are ready, and that you have at least 2 Dark Mistresses.
- There will be 6 hero attacks:
1 tunneller
2 witch
3 fairy & archer
4 thief, dwarf, & barbarian
5 wizard, giant, samurai, & monk
6 Lord of the Land
After you capture and imprison a hero (Remember that the Imprison icon on the Information Panel must be flashing), you may use your Torture Chamber or wait until later. Each hero has only one type of torture on the torture table.
- To start a battle, add 1 Guard Post to activate the first hero.
- After the hero is captured and placed in your prison, drop him a chicken to build up his strength. You might need to make your Prison and Torture Chamber bigger by expanding to the west.
- Repeat the above two steps to activate your next five hero attacks
OR build a Bridge to have the Lord of the Land enter sooner. The Bridge can only be built over the water east of the Lair/gold field.
- If you captured and imprisoned the Lord of the Land, press the space bar to enter the Torture Dungeon. There are 9 different doors to select.
- Normal game play resumes at Level 2. The Avatar does not appear until Level 20!
- In case you cannot exit the program, press the special Windows key or Ctrl-Esc to access Windows.
- Use any text editor to modify Map00001.txt or any level script if you want to make heroes stronger or use different battle senarios or make other changes. See Aexia's Dungeon Keeper Hacking Page for more details.
