Quake 2 Multiplayer
The best part of playing Quake 2 is playing with other people. Sure, bots can be fun, but can you taunt them after killing them? Laugh at them? Or give them a friendly gesture after they shot you? No! You need real people to do that. Below is a list of where you can play some Quake 2 for free. If you know of other sites where you can play Quake 2 for free, please email me.
  • The Zone: This is a good place to play Quake 2 with other players. Sign up is free and the software download is quite small. The lag on the zone is not too bad either.
  • Heat: You can play Quake 2 on Heat also. The Heat software is pretty big though. The lag on Heat is not the best.
  • Mplayer: Mplayer is another place you can play Quake 2. The Mplayer software is also quite big. The lag on Mplayer is not that good.
  • Gamespy: Gamespy is one of the best place to play Quake 2. The software download is small. You can play Quake 2 on Gamespy for free, but you can pay a one time fee of $20 to get some extra features like chat or a friends list. Speed on Gamespy is good. The only downside of Gamespy is that you can't host your own game here.
Server List Another way to join a Quake 2 game is joining manually. You need to find a server's ip adress and type it in yourself. Joining this way usually gives you better ping.
  • Game-a-Holic: Has one of the biggest server list for Quake 2 and other games.
  • Yoda's Barn: Has four Quake 2 servers on the east coast.
  • CQ2: Quake 2 servers for the eastern US.
  • Stoogeville: Quake 2 CTF servers.
