It stalks across the darkened room
It's eyes are full of fright
And with it people think of gloom
This creature of the night.
It sits and stares with full content
And then it disappears
I watch and wonder where it went
Until it reappears.
Again it stares at empty air
This beautiful black beast
It watches as the mice prepare
To be my pets big feast
It waits to strike the unaware
As several move afar
And pounces on it fast and fair
Careful not to mar.
Hungrily it eats it down
Much too quick I dread
For in poison mice did drown
And now my cat is dead.
