The Legend of Zelda: The Jade Triforce

Chapter 8

Link and Metallic stepped off the Orange Warp and proceded down the valley.

Wait a sec, Metallic. I have something I want to do before we go any farther.

I have an idea of what it is that you want. The rainbow weapons, right?

Link looked at Metallic quizzatively.

How'd you know?

I think like you in a way. And I reasoned that pretty soon you were going to say that we needed more firepower.

Very true. And what better time than this?

I have an additional idea. We still have yet to get the rainbow weapon from the Red world yet, and time IS of the essence, so why don't we split up? I'll go back to the first dungeon and you can head to the Temple of Thought, er, Time and I'll meet you there later.

Sounds like a plan. Let's go!

Link handed Metallic the prism gauntlets, light crystal, and the Red crystal. Then they took off for the base of the valley and from there they split up. Metallic charged across the field while Link headed toward the castle. Soon after Link reached the remains of most of the market ahead of him the first thing he noticed was the giant blue sphere covering the entire castle! It seemed to go right through solid buildings too, because many shops were still standing with the transparent wall going right down the center of them. Link stared in awe for a few moments, when he heard the cries of a young girl. He whirled around to see what was going on when a sword's handle of a horseman passing by was brought down sharply on his head. The last thing he saw before blackness set in was a girl being picked up roughly, placed on a the horse with the sword-wielding horseman, and them riding off towards Lake Hylia. Meanwhile at the Red Warp Point..

I'd better hurry up and find that weapon. It's got to be around here somewhere.

Metallic engaged the warp system and was surprised to find himself in Darkfyre's lair, instead of the dungeon entrance point.

That's a surprise! Something's still not right here.

Metallic scanned the entire room, but still saw nothing out of the ordinary yet. He tried the only door, but it was solidly locked. He wandered over towards the middle of the room, across the frozen lava. Only after pushing away some of Darkfyre's shattered remains, did he see the hole in the lava. Somehow, the dungeon master had kept it from being froze over.

I better have a look down there and see if there's anything useful.

After climbing down the hole, the view instantly changed from a tunnel, into a small cavern. At one end there was still a pool of bubbling magma. Without even thinking about what to do, Metallic raised his Ice Launchers at the pond. Ice shot out from the weapons and froze over all the the hot, spewing lava. Metallic walked over and received another surprise when the ice broke under his foot. After carefully breaking the ice, a chest was revealed.

Must be that dragon's personal stash of something.

Metallic got another surprise when he opened the box to find a shield with many blades and grooves on it inside. It was the Rainbow Shield!

What luck! I found the rainbow weapon!

Just after he spoke aloud, a large rumbling sound became audible. The first thing that happened was the archway leading the tunnel became blocked by falling rocks. Shortly thereafter, the ceiling above Metallic also began to rain down.

Maybe I spoke too soon...

Back near the castle Link woke up with a start, and looked around violently. The man and girl were nowhere to be seen.

Some hero I am... I turn around and am knocked out cold for who knows how long. Oh...

He stretched and noticed the gash across his arm and quickly tore off a piece of his tunic to use as a temporary bandage. Then he thought to himself and suddenly took in what had happened.

Oh, great! Here I am, supposed to be saving the Triforce and along comes some guy that takes me out in one blow and kidnaps someone too. Well, guess it's rescue time. But wait, Metallic will be meeting me here and if I'm not here then we may not find each other for some time.

As it turns out, Link didn't have to worry about that particular problem very long...

Just as the entire ceiling threated to collapse Metallic got an idea worth trying to stay in one piece.

Crystal, take me to the Temple of Thought!

Nothing happened.

Um, uh... Crystal, take me to the Temple of Time!

Still, nothing happened. Just then the ceiling fell. In one last ditch effort, Metallic yelled out once more.

Crystal, take me to the Temple of Light! And step on it!!

Metallic shimmered as he warped out and the rocks came crashing down, filling the room. In the Temple of Time, Metallic shimmered back to existance as he realized the the Temple was the DOORWAY to the Temple of Light. He raced outside to see Link there, with a piece of his tunic around his arm and looking toward the field.

Hey Link, I got it!

Link turned to face Metallic.

How'd you get... here? Oh, the crystal, right? Well, there's no time to talk now. Just hurry into the temple so I can learn those rainbow weapon moves, and I'll fill you in on the way to Lake Hylia.

As they ran into the Temple of Thought, Link began to pull out his Rainbow weapons they had collectd so far. First the Rainbow Boomerang, then the Rainbow Staff. Metallic produced the Rainbow Shield and set it atop the pile of other weapons.

Which one do we do first?

Let's to the Rainbow Staff, it's the first one we collected.

Alright.

Metallic stood under the Triforce symbol and Link stood at the altar, holding the Rainbow Staff. Suddenly, a beam came from the staff Link was holding and entered the Light Crystal. It reflected the beam straight at Metallic, causing him to glow. After this happened, another beam sprouted from him towards the Ruby Pendant which Link still wore, where it then seemed to make him also illuminate. Unnoticed to the duo of adventurers, was a man who snuck into the Temple. Without them noticing, he grabbed the other weapons lying on the floor.

I... I understand it. I feel as if I always knew how to do this. It's a combination of fighting and magic, this new technique I've learned. I do the physical work and the staff does the rest. Amazing!

The beams ceased and Link turned to grab another weapon only to find them missing.

Looking for something?

Link and Metallic spun on their heels to see a bearded man in the doorway holding the Rainbow Shield and Boomerang.

Hey, give those back!

No, I won't.

I think it's just about time to see if this new technique works or not...

Link held the staff upright in the air and the let go of it. Somehow, it did not drop to the ground, but hovered exactly where he let go. After focusing his thoughts, he look directly at the man and WILLED the staff to work its magic. It began to spin rapidly in a circle, forming a spinning wall and then, like a fan blade, flew at the man. The man cried out and held up the shield to protect himself from the flying weapon. The staff hit its magic shield counterpart harmlessly and whirled back to Link's outstretched hand. The man, Link, and even Metallic were shocked. The man gained the strength to speak.

No, no! I didn't mean you any trouble, it's just that my daughter was kidnapped! I need someone to help me and you two looked like you were too busy to help some guy, so I figured that I had to get something that looked really important or valueable to you. I'll make a deal with you... If you save my daughter, these things will be returned to you. Please, help her!

Link turned to Metallic and dropped the staff.

Well, that's why it was so important we go right away. The guy who kidnapped her slashed my arm and knocked me out. Then they headed toward the lake.

We should help out if we can, plus it's near our next destination. Let's leave immediately.

Oh, thank you, thank you! Come back with her okay and meet me in Kakariko Village and the stuff is yours. Just don't let her get hurt, okay?

Don't worry sir, we'll find your daughter. Come on, let's do this!

Once again, they set out to do a noble deed for the local townsfolk, knowing that the Jade Triforce still was out there and time was running out.
