The Legend of Zelda: The Jade Triforce
Chapter 7
Link and Metallic made it to Lake Hylia to find the
old lab deserted, broken, and half submerged.
Where should we start looking?
Well, let's check the ruins first and then if we don't
find anything, we'll check the area under water.
Okay.
Metallic began lifting heavy rubble and Link
searched the area nearby. It was when Metallic lifted a huge piece of debris, that Link spotted a
metal plate beneath it.
Hey, look at that.
Metallic threw the rock aside and gazed at the
plate.
It's the same as in the forest, where the Ruby
Pendant was hidden.
Metallic put his hand on the plate. Right away it
began to move and sink into the earth. It then moved aside, revealing a compartment with a map
of some sort inside.
I sure hope this is what I think it is.
Link reached in and grabbed the map. He held it up
and studied it for awhile.
It's more than what you expected! Wow, I never
knew about all of these things that existed out of Hyrule.
Link began to point out places on the map like
Rocky Canyon, Serpent Trench, Illusion Meadow, and Eagle Point. He went on to show not only
the golden lines running across it, but on certain areas of the map were red, orange, yellow, green,
blue, and purple crystals. There was also an emblem of a green triangle in the corners.
Wow...not even I expected this...I never knew about
all of this.
So what's next?
A low rumbling sound became audible. The rocks
began to shake.
I think we'd better run for it before we're
crushed!
The two high-tailed it out of the ruins in time to see
what was left tumble into the lake with its predecessor. Metallic stared into the ruins and then
turned away. Silently he spoke.
Thank you...
Link put his hand on Metallic's shoulder.
We should go. There's still a lot of work to do.
Yeah, now where to?
Hmmm...let's see...um...Rocky Canyon is the
closest.
Which direction is it in?
Near the valley...that sounds about right. Let's get
moving.
They started walking and got no further after passing
over the bridge, when they saw the path was blocked by a rock slide.
Now how do we get through?
I don't know...
Link thought for a bit.
Wait! I forgot all about it - the drill thing from
Prismix's lair. We can burrow our way through.
It's worth a shot.
Link tried and tried, grinding into the rock, but it
was too solid.
I was sure that was going to work...
I have an idea. Let's make the rocks easier to
break.
How will we do that?
Easy: ice.
Metallic raised his arm and patted an Ice
Launcher.
What are those?
The Ice Launchers. That's how I defeated Master
Darkfyre, the last dungeon's boss. Very hard to get these.
Metallic raised the Ice Launchers and fired at the
rocks, immediately coating them with ice and chilling their cores.
Try it now.
Link resumed drilling and a hold formed which soon
enlarged to a tunnel which then evolved into a walkway.
Man, those things are cool! Literally!
Yeah, that's what I thought, too. Now where do we
head?
Link looked at the map again and pointed to the
right.
We go down this passage, turn right, and start
climbing. Then we go down a trail that'll overlook the canyon.
They followed the paths indicated and reached the
top of the cliff they had just climbed. By that time it was well past nightfall.
I'll get a fire going. Do you want to take a look
around?
Yeah, maybe there's some landmark or something
that'll be of use to us.
Link started walking and went a little ways off the
path when he saw a pedestal resting in some bushes. Suddenly he heard a rumbling sound and
looked up. Then everything went black.
When Link came to, Metallic was battling a giant rock creature twice his size. Metallic got a few
good hits with Link's sword, but then the creature reared back and bellowed. The monster picked
up a boulder and hurled it at Metallic. Metallic dodged and then knocked him into the
canyon.
Uh...what happened?
The Golas attacked you from above.
He pointed up.
Golas?
Rock creatures. Like ancient Gorons. Very skilled,
fierce, and primitive.
Is there anything else I should know about?
Much, but I'm afraid that I know the reason why you
were attacked.
The pedestal?
So you've seen it. Well, let's take a closer look.
They walked over to the pedestal and searched it to
find plain writing on it.
It says: "To seek the crystal, shoot at the
morning sun." I did that long ago at Lake Hylia. That's where I received fire arrows.
It's almost morning. If I were you I'd get your bow
ready.
They waited a half hour when light began to seep
over the canyon's edge. Link was poised with his bow ready to fire.
Steady...
Yeah, I know...
The sun began to slowly rise. Link pulled the
bowstring back, aimed true, and released. The arrow sped into the sky towards the sun when
suddenly the arrow stopped, started glowing orange, turned around, and accelerated toward it's
origin. Link turned to Metallic.
Would this be a good time to run?
Yeah, it would.
They took off in opposite directions as the arrow got
closer. The arrow hit the pedestal dead center, giving off a shock wave that sent the adventurers
flying. They both got up and brushed themselves off. Link was the first to see what had happened.
Metallic looked up next, viewing the Orange World warp point.
Looks like we've found the next warp point and I'm
NOT getting left behind this time!
I don't think there's any concern of that kind
here.
Just to be sure, the Light Crystal stays locked in the
Prism Gauntlets.
That's fine. Do you want to go in now, so soon after
you took a blow to your head?
I'm fine. Let's get it on.
They stepped onto the newly formed platform. Link
put the Orange Crystal into the Light Crystal. He then placed them in his right gauntlet.
Crystal, take us to the Orange World!
They warped to the dungeon to find themselves being attacked by venomous snakes. When those were beaten, a chest appeared in the center of the room. Link opened it and saw a multi-colored boomerang inside.
It's another rainbow weapon, isn't it?
Yeah. I just realized that if this one is here in this dungeon, then we missed the one in the Red dungeon.
We'll get it later. Right now we have other things to attend to.
As they passed into the next room they saw some dodongos. After killing them the master key appeared. Link pocketed it and continued. After a few more such rooms, another, bigger, chest appeared. This time, after Link opened it with the key, some glowing bombs were inside with a bag.
Wow, these are helpful!
What are they?
Light Bombs. They're like the bomb form of Light Arrows. Just put a normal bomb in the bag and it turns it into a Light Bomb.
Great! Are they more powerful?
Vastly. Try one out over there.
Metallic pointed randomly at a wall. Link set a Light Bomb down and retreated to a far corner with Metallic. The bomb exploded with a powerful bang, reducing the wall to ashes. Another room, on the other side of where the wall was, had only one door on the far side with a master key lock.
Talk about dumb luck! Would you look at that.
What do you think's in there?
I have one good guess. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
I think so.
Link placed the key in the door and unlocked it. Both walked through the door, knowing what lay beyond.
Ha, ha, ha! So, someone has decided to face me. You will feel the wrath of Gurglion! I will not yield!
A translucent goo dripped from the ceiling onto the floor into a puddle. Link and Metallic took up fighting positions as the slime began to form into a humanoid form. Where the eyes would have been, the material turned suddenly red, as if it had been angered. The figure suddenly hardened and leaped into an air attack. Link cried out.
Look out!
Link rolled to the side to counter-strike, but Gurglion knocked Metallic down before he could move. Gurglion's hand began to shimmer and it turned into slime again. It then reformed a hand holding a blade. During this time Metallic noticed his opponent was distracted so he leaped up and out of the way.
Whoa, how'd he do that?!
Link quickly turned serious again and jump attacked the creature. Gurglion spun around and knocked Link down. Suddenly, Metallic punched him, only to find his hand go right through the unstable being.
No!
Nice try, but you can't hurt me!
Let's see you dodge this!
Link swung his sword through Gurglion's body to find it also didn't affect him.
Link, get away!
Metallic pulled his hand out and ran toward the corner of the room. Link pulled his sword out and followed suit and they turned to face Gurglion. The monster shimmered as it became gelatin again and then spread out like water. Gurglion wrapped himself around their legs.
Keep moving!
They started moving around and Gurglion couldn’t get a solid grip on them. He took his solid form again and started to re-attack them.
Link, try the special dungeon weapon!
The Light Bombs!
Link took out a bomb and set it down. It blew up, throwing Gurglion into another corner.
Arrgh! Where did you get those?!
Link pulled out three more and made a barrier around his foe. Once again these went off and Gurglion showed signs of exhaustion.
There isn't going to be any more sliming for you, buddy.
Link placed his last Light Bomb in the middle of Gurglion's slimy core.
NOOOOO--!
The bomb exploded, sending slime flying everywhere. A bright light surrounded the room and when it dimmed, a yellow crystal floated in the middle of the room.
We're finished here. Let's go.
Link grabbed the crystal and placed it in the Light Crystal in his right gauntlet.
Crystal, return us to the overworld!
Warping...
