These rogue guardsmen become mercenaries. Rough and tough fighters in it for the money and the glory, and little else.
Often, gang members from Imperial hive worlds are recruited by mercenaries to replace lost members of a squad. This means a squad can be made up of various different groups all fighting for the same cause.

Squad: A squad of Imperial Guard Mercenaries consists of 1 Leader and 9 Mercenaries.
Weapons: Each model in the squad may be armed with their own combination of weapons. (You may still only have one heavy weapon, but up to two special weapons.)
Armour: Any member of the squad may wear flak armour at a points cost of +1 point/model.
Wargear: The squad leader may have one wargear card worth under 30 points.
Veterans: Mercenaries are always veterans. You may choose up to two veteran abilities for the squad.
Special Rules: Mercenaries will only fight if their squad leader is still alive. If the leader
is killed the squad automatically breaks and flees. They may not rally, even if an Imperial Guard
character is within 12".
Mercenaries may only be take leadership tests on their leader's leadership. If another character
joins the unit their leadership has no affect on the squad.
