Mario Kart 64

Luigi Raceway: 50. This is probally the easiest course to win at in 50. If you trail in second on this race in 50, you'll probably get a luxury toll item. Just try not to miss the tunnel entrance, or it might mess you up by doing a grabbing default. Also watch out for bombs placed around the track. If you powerslide at least once on most of the turns you're almost guaranteed to win. 100. This is a little harder than the 50 track because of the more agressive opponents and a lower luxury toll. Again, if you powerslide you should be alright.150. Finally! Not a guarnteed first. The computer controlled carts will be right behind you if you aren't careful. Try getting a lot of powerslides off each lap for some extra speed. Extra Watch out for turning the wrong way in the tunnel and in the big turns. Other than that it's your regular 100 race. Time Trials: What a great race to time trial on! You can set your goals under 1:52'00. Why? To get a course ghost. If you do get under 1:52 immediately retry and you'll get a programmers ghost. To get under 1:52'00 try to get over 3 powerslides with miny turbos on every big turn and don't try to go into a power slide at the end of a turn when there isn't much track left (it will waist time). Also remember to powerslide into both tunnel turns. Try not to get caught against a wall like this because it will slow you down, and any extra seconds are vital in time trials.

Moo Moo Farm: 50. Watch out for the gophers on the right side of the road and also watch the turns... the touchy graphics might comfuse you and make you turn the wrong way. Besides the gophers and the turns you should be OK. 100. With a faster cart and more agressive opponents you might want to powerslide on most of the turns. Don't try to cut the slides short or you might end up in a gopher hole. Also I sugest you go to the right side of the bridge near the last lap. 150. Die Gophers Die! In this it will be hard to catch up if you hit a few gophers (especially if you are a heavy wieght*) because the luxury toll is very low. Extra: The turns will be a problem in this becuase uf the touchy graphics and the habit breaking technique needed to use in Extra course. Time Trials: If you're looking for a good time you should try to powerslide right into the gopehrs and hope you don't hit any. There is no known ghost in this level.

Koopa Troopa Beach: 50. This course has the most shortcuts in the game. (Not that you'll need them in 50). Well, to start out always go to the left of the big turtle rock. Then watch out for bombs along the way. If you have a mushroom you can use it on the jump near the black hole***. Blast it while on the jump and save 6 seconds. If you don't have mushroom, go to the left side of the opened rock for a vital shortcut (but don't go into the water!) If you have an extra mushroom around you might want to use on the tall skinny jump near the waterfall (the exit of the hole shortcut). If you get the ? box LET IT SCROLL and you get a spinny shell (don't use this if you're in first.) If you don't get any of these shortcuts, just try to avoid all jump to save time. 100. Same strategy as 50 just in this race it is vital to get at least 1 hole shortcut. 150. Those attempting to race this class watch out for banna peels on the jump near the hole. You should be good enough though to beat it without using the shortcut. Extra: Remember to always go nearest the ocean in this race unless you're heading for the jump. Also remember that this isn't Backwards, it's mirrored, so don't think going through thhe waterfall is a shortcut, because it's not. Time Trials: Some people say that you can get Koopa Troopa (majikoopa as some call him) if you beat it under a certian amount of time. That is FALSE. Believe me, I've gotten a perfect time in this course and there is no way he's there. Anyway, for you to get a good time trials time in the course you should try to get some powerslides on dead turns, and always get the jump shortcut. Also, go to the left of the three jumps to save some time.

Kalimari Desert: 50. You will notice trains in this course, but they won't come near you in 50. If they do, cut the grass and you'll save about 5 seconds if the computer carts are trapped behind a train. Try to stay on the course and not go into the tunnels and you'll at least place in this course. 100. The trains become a little better at timing in this course so always be on the lookout for them. Besides that, nothing is really different except maybe some more bananas and bombs on the railroad crossings. 150. On the first lap you are almost guaranteed to have train crossing trouble. If you think you can beat it by a little try it, it will only mess you up about 1/2 of a second if you don't make it. Mushrooms help when tring to beat a train. Extra: Remember: DON'T THINK THIS IS BACKWARDS! IT'S MIRRORED TURNS! DO NOT GO INTO THE TRAIN TUNNELS(but it's a nice little trick to play on your friends)! This course might throw you off with the habbit breaking format again, and it's hard to find the faint colored road. Time Trials: This is an excellent course to practice on little turns.

Toad's Turnpike: 50. This is not an easy course to win at. First off, try to stay in the middle lanes, becuase if you're caught on the outside you're as good as gone. Second, only take powerups when needed. They'll waste some time and let the computer controlled cars pull ahead. 100. This course is actually kind of easier in 100 than in 50 becuase you go FASTER. Yes, this makes for a shorter course and you get to know where the cars are going to be. In this, it gets very hard after the third lane disappears. Hang in there and you'll do all right. 150. Now going full speed this course is equal to Royal Raceway. Just stay clear of cars and trucks and busses and whatever other stuff is in the traffic and you won't get yourself killed. Powerups do become vital in this and it isn't that bad to sacrifice a second to get a much needed powerup. Extra Can you say HARD? Traffic is actually coming AT you. This gives you almost no time to avoid the trucks and busses flying at you. Try to stay in the center lane so you have the option of moving left or right. Also if you stay in the left lane you run the risk of hitting three cars in a row! Even more if you're a heavy weight. Time Trials: I do not know of anyone who actually likes racing this course on time trials. I've done it once and hated it. Anyway, if you're like me and want to set a record on every single time trials course you might want to stay clear of traffic. Also, don't go into the weapon gauges because they'll waste you're valuable time. Besides that this race stinks. Try to use your mushrooms on the long straight away when you seem to be going down a hill. The truely daring will try to powerslide!

Frappe Snowland: This course is so easy with snow things 100 and 50 are combinned. 50 and 100. In this course your main objective is to stay on the road and don't hit a snowman. That's all there is to it. If you really don't like the part where all the snowmen are, then go to the left side of the mario snowman. If you like to save time and think you can avoid them, go through the snowmen, but near the right side of the Mario statue. Remember not to hit a snowman. 150. Again this is very easy. All you need to watch out for is bannanas and bombs on the bridge and getting pushed off the bridge. Again watch out for snowmen and try to stay on the road. Extra: Remember that there are no snowmen on the left side of the Mario statue now, and remember all the turns are opposite. Besides that you should win. Time Trials: I kind of like this course in time trials because of the narrow power sliding turns. Try to go to the left of the snowman and also try to get a powerslide right after that.

Choco Mountian: Cho Cho! 50 In this mode it is impossibly easy! The one place that might mess you up is railed in so the only thing to worry about in 50 mode are the falling rocks. If you are in front you have no need to worry except for the final jumps. If you're in a close race with someone and you have a mushroom try to save it to those last three jumps. 100. Now this course posses a threat. The only time I fall off the big turn is when I powerslide on it, so don't try. Other than that, nothing new accept the fact the carts are faster and it makes it even harder to not hit the sides on those final jumps. 150. Watch out if you're a little guy like Toad on the turns and don't try to be fancy by powersliding a lot. It will only get you into a lake or farther back in the course. Extra: This is hard to remember which way to turn, and watch out for many bananas before the tunnel entrance. Also watch out on the big turn. Other than that you'll be fine off. Time Trials: Now you should try to powerslide. Powerslide into every corner that you can possibly slide into. Also try to get a few on the big turn and pull out early if the rock is getting too near. Don't mess up on the final jump and you'll have a pretty good time.

Mario Raceway: The most fun course in the game. This course has everything. What can we say? 50. Race around this course not worring about powerslide, and the luxury toll is very high. Anyone can win in this course if they stay on the road and don't get sucked into a paranah plant. 100. This course doesn't get much harder and you still don't need to powerslide. 150. Watch out for good computer opponents. You might want to try to blast across the sand if you have a mushroom because the computer carts are creeping up behind you. Also, you might be able to get a powerslide off at the big turn before the shortcut even if you're a beginer. Go ahead, try. Extra: This course relies on breaking habbits again and also you must rely on the luxury toll to win this for you. I use at least 1 lightning every time I race this in Extra mode. Time Trials: This course has a course ghost. If you can get a time under 1:30'00 retry and the ghost will be there. How do you do this? Well first off get a mushroom boost start. To do this, accelerate a 1/2 second before the last light goes on and you'll get a big speed boost. Now you should cut across the grass (when you have the mushroom speed) and try to powerslide every turn. I mean EVERY turn. Even the little turns before the big one can be powerslided. Go ahead, try it. Also in the big sand ditch use your mushroom to save a few seconds. My best time is 1:25'05. Try to beat it. You can see your best Mario Raceway scores on the title screen by pressing the R button.

Wario's Stadium: The second longest course in the game is sure to get you out of your seat and yelling when you slip on that banana peal right at the end on the big jump. Unless you take this advice... 50. This course is definately not as fun in 50 for you don't go as fast and the challenge of the computer cars is not there. Unless of course you are a begginer, than this course is as tough and tough can be. Don't worry about powersliding on the turns becuase you don't need the extra speed and the luxury prize is pretty high. Try to grab as many ? balloons as you can and watch out for a sudden loss of speed on the jump. If you have a lightning bolt, a good place to use it is on that jump. 100. Can you say dramactic difficulty rise? Well if you raced 50 and expected an easy race you might have already said that. Enough with the language games and let's get down to business. Watch out for bombs and such on the big jump just to slow you down. If you don't make that jump it's a major SLOOWER DOWNER. Also, try not to be behind a computer cart becuase they will usually "steal" your weapons and take them to use on you. 150. This is probally one of the hardest races in the course. You are pretty much required to powerslide around the turns. The computers become good and the luxury prize goes down. Extra: With an exception to Toad's Turnpike, this is the hardest course to get used to on extra from normal. There are so many turns in this you can't tell where to go. Even I get messed up in this one. Time Trials: There is a vital shortcut that can save you at least 15 seconds. Right at the beggining of the lap, slow down on top of one of those little bumps. Now aim towards the low left wall, fire a mushroom and right before you hit the wall JUMP! If you can save at least 1 mushroom you can do this again for an even better time. Besides the shortcut try to powerslide on every turn.

Sherbet Land: What a road of penguins! 50. Don't try to cut corners in this one, or you'll have an icy encounter. It turns out that if you try to jump over the corners you have a better chance to fall into the water and mess up your lap than to make it over and save 1/5 of a second. Anyway, inside of the tunnel where the big penguins walk around, you want to go from left to right every time there is a penguin crossing. (Hint: You start on the left). 100. It seems that the penguins like to really bug you, as you are really stopped hard by those annoying brat penguins inside of the tunnel and out. Again, go fun left to right around those penguin surrounded pillars and make sure not to fall into the icy lake becuase not only do you fall in, you turn into an ice ball and can't move for 3 seconds and more than likely you'll spin out from starting your engine too early. 150. Nothing much harder in this than 100, but it seems there are many, many bombs and banana peels placed inside the tunnel. Also remember that if you have a weapon with you when you come out of the tunnel, do NOT waste time going for the ? boxes. It will save you over a second to go to the left of them. Extra: Remember that you start on the right inside the tunnel and you go the opposite way on your way out of the tunnel (even I was fooled and forced to an icy grave). So pay attention! Time Trials: This race is like Toad's Turnpike in time trials: I don't know anyone who likes do play this course. Well if you do, here's the tips on getting a good time. First, powerslide inside of the tunnel on the big turn. Also, powerslide coming out of the tunnel and going towards the starting mark.

Royal Raceway: This course is my favorite of the raceway tracks. 50. This course has not much hard parts in 50. You will almost always make the jump and you needn't worry about bombs in the air, you'll pass right through them. The best way to get past the hairpin turn at the end is to cut through the grass. You'll lose only a little time and you don't run the risk of falling into the water. Don't worry about powersliding, for you don't need the extra speed. 100. This makes the course a little harder. There starts to be bombs and bananas on the course, and if you're a light weight you'll, as always, be bumped around by the bigger guys. Watch out that you don't miss the jump entrance and make sure that you don't fall into the water on the "S" turn near the end of the track. 150. Remember that you can get side tracked to the castle on a road just outside the jump, so as you don't worry about it, tell your friends it's a shortcut! Also, as always, watch out for the S turn at the end. By now you should have powersliding down, so if you really want to challenge, try powersliding on the turn. But it's easier to just slow down on the turn you won't have any speed to fall off. Extra: There are just too many turns in this to break the habbit! I suggest you race this race kind of slowly, to make sure you don't turn the wrong way and fall into the lake. Also, remember which way to turn after the jump, because you might get side tracked into the Princesses Castle. Time Trials: Ghost Alert! Ghost Alert! Yes that's right! Under 2:40'00 Peach will show up with an attitude. How you get under 2:40, is up to you. I sugggest you use Peach, Toad or Yoshi and powerslide on EVERY turn. Along with that, I suggest you use your mushroom on the straight away right before the last turn of the lap.

Bowser's Castle: I find this the hardest course in the game with all of the Thwomps and places to fall off and big turns. Hey, you might like it. 50. When in the Castle, don't do what the thwomps do. That was somewhat a famous saying. And hey, it's true. Avoid the thwomps that move in the air and then squash down by staying on the checkered part of the floor. Stay straight on the narrow bridge or you'll fall into the hot lava! Also, if you hit anything on the big turn outside the castle you probably won't make the jump. What I'm saying is: WATCH OUT!!!! 100. Again, stay on the checkered part of the floor. This time, you need to time when you're going to go through the entrance gaurded by two thwomps now. You can sometimes squeeze in through the wall and the thwomp, but that's pretty hard. And watch out now for bombs and such on the bridge, that will not only slow you down, but lounge you into the lava. 150. Now it gets hard. There are three thwomps now, guarding the entrance to the third room and if you're not a heavy weight, you'll probably be pushed off the bridge by one. Watch out for all sorts of junk on the big turn and remember to stay to the left when you have the option on the 2 jumps. Extra: Whoa (no comment added). Time Tri-- just kidding, you guys need some help here. Ok, well remember that all the turns are opisite, and don't get caught turning the wrong way into a wall. Remember not to turn the wrong way when turning into the bridge area, cause you might get caught against a wall and not be able to get out and fall into the lava. Time Trials (for real this time): OK, the only person I know who actually likes to race this in time trials is my friend. (Even though I beat him in one try). Anyway, concentrate on not hitting any thwomps, becuase they'll mess up your time. If you're good, try to get a lot of powerslides off in the castle. Then outside of the castle try to get one off on the big turn, so you don't lose much speed when brushing against the wall. After that, you should do fine.

D.K.'s Jungle Parkway: fun and difficult describe this course. 50. Not very hard in 50, you don't need to make any of the shortcuts, and infact, you can mess up, not go on the shortcuts and still get in first by a few seconds! That's right, because of the Luxury Toll in this course, everything seems easy. 100. DON'T THINK JUMPING FARTHER TO THE RIGHT ON THE JUMP WILL SAVE YOU SOME SECONDS! In fact, cutting the jump short might result in you losing time. Why? Because you don't have a place to turn and get started again. So, you'll brush against the hill between the grass and the road and not be able to go any where. A shortcut you should take, however is inside of the tunnel. Instead of going along the light brown road, cut the incline where it isn't that steep. If you have mushroom, aim towards the steepest part of the incline and fire the mushroom. This will save you a LOT of time. 150. I-- Am-- going-- too-- fast!!! That's what you might say as you race this course. You probably go the fastest in this course than any other course int he game. Despite the blinding speeds, use the tunnel shortcut and try to get some powerslides off on the turns. One place that you don't want to powerslide is near the water because you might fall in and lose precious time! Extra: You don't go as fast in this, so don't worry about falling into the water due to speeding. However, do worry about turning into the water, so to avoid this, PAY ATTENTION to where you're going. Remember that you go to the left on the jump and you also go to the left on the turn inside the tunnel. You can still use the tunnel shortcut, but boy is it wierd! Time Trials: This is a very hard race to do in time trials because you'll lose more time than usuall going off the road. Those pesky monkeys will hit you and they might even cause you to spin out. Try getting powerslides off on every turn in this, and save the mushroom for inside of the tunnel.

Yoshi's Valley: My favorite course!!! 50. If you're racing this course in 50 it usually means that you're racing this race for the first time. So you want to go the shortest and one of the easiest ways. First, go to the left when the course splits into an option of ways. Then go to your first right. You should be in a short passage way with a porcupine field. If you're going to spin out, try to hit the first one, so you won't be caught against the wall and be vulnerable to fall off. After you've made it through the porcupines, keep going straight and make your way to the egg. Do not go into the eag because it will flatten you. Instead, go around it and onto the bridge. 100. You should still go the same way in this, but now watch out for others going the same way and trying to bump you off. Also, the egg becomes harder to avoid, but if you do avoid it, you can gain some valuable seconds on the computer opponents because they go right into the egg. Also, there's a shortcut that I like to use near the end of the lap. You turn off on the road to get the the finish, but it's easier to use a mushroom through the grass and it saves a couple of seconds, too. 150. Now it really gets fun! And challenging. Always go the way told in 50 and try this very hard, but effective shortcut. After all of the ways have met up, go to the right side of the road. When you see farther on in the course is very close, slow down just a little and jump. Then slow down all you can to get a good landing off. If you can get the good landing off, then you save at least 5 seconds. If you can't, you're back where you started. Extra: Remember that you go to the right when the roads divides to get the shortest way, and don't try to do the jumping shortcut, it's far too hard. You can still do the grass shortcut, and it's still as effective. Also remember before you get to the split to turn right, not left. Time Trials: The only time I really raced this course in time trials was when I was seeing which way was fastest. Now that I've found it, if you don't hit any porcupines, you'll do great. If you hit a few you'll still have a good time. If you don't like to hit any porcupines, I suggest you go to the right, when it splits. Then go to the inside of the volcano, and over the bridge. This way is almost as fast.

Banshee's Boardwalk: The Banshee's won't come for you in the death wagon, but maybe in a go kart! 50. This is the hardest race for beginers. Try going VERY SLooowwwww when the road seems to get very thin. Also, when you're inside of the tunnel, FOLLOW the arrow. The other way is not a shortcut, but just a longer and harder way to go. Since this is such a hard course, the luxury toll is very high (like second place!!!). 100. Wow, now it really gets hard. Sometimes there's bombs and junk on the hard to-get-across part of the course, and big heavy weights will try to knock you off. Be careful!!!! Also, in the ghost house, the bats will harm you a little bit. There might also be bombs near the end of the lap, where on turns you can easily fall off. 150. Guess what, isn't this just dandy. If you don't have 2 first coming into this race and you aren't very good at rainbow road, I suggest you quit and try for 2 firsts! What I'm getting at, is that you'll probally make a third place at the best in this course, unless of course you have some huge amount of practice that, you probally don't if you're reading this FAQ(no offense). Extra: Now this is hard. Take it slow and remember that you go the opposite ways on turns. Powersliding is out of the question, this course is so hard. What I suggest, is that you get firsts in all the other courses, to capture a gold in Special Cup: Extra. Time Trials: Now who in the right mind would want to race this course in time trials mode? Well if you have a right mind and like this course, then this is for you. First, you should be able to get powerslides off on some of the turns near the begining. Also, since there are no bats inside of the haunted house, you should be able to get a powerslide off in there. Infact, you might be able to get two powerslides off! If you don't fall off, then you're set.

Rainbow Road: The longest course in the game. 50. This course is very long and drawn out in 50. A single error could take a long time to catch up. If you go to the opposite side of the Barking Sphere's you'll almost always not get hit. Also, don't fire any shells on turns, and do NOT fire any green shells forward. Wait for someone to trail behind you, and then make them pay. 100. I'll give pretty much the same advice in this one, except that the luxury toll goes down, and it take's less time to catch up. Also, watch out for those pesky spheres. 150. Now is when this shortcut comes in handy. Get a super boost from the start of the race, then immedaitely trail to the left. After going down the hill just a tiny bit, cut to the right and jump. You should make it to 30 seconds later in the course!!!! Extra: This is probably one of the easiest extra courses to remember. With the big turns, and so many of them, you get used to not remembering which way to go, so this course seems fresh in your mind. You can make the jump shortcut easily, just remember it's to your LEFT side!!!!!!! Time Trials: I find this course easy in time trails. You can get powerslides off on nearly every turn, and with the jump shortcut, you can brush more than a minute off your time!!! Even though the spheres are still there, this course is very easy in time trials.
