Extra Mode: To get the Extra Mode, Tanks in Versus Mode, and Graphic Equalizer in the Sound Test, you must do a few things. You must achieve medals on all 15 levels, by beating the stage with a specific number of hits and keep all of your comrades alive.(Shown after level above)
Medal Of Honor And Expert Mode: In order to get to expert mode you must meet certain requirements set about in each mission. You will receive a medal of honor for achieving these objectives. For example, Getting a high score will get you a medal of honor. If you get a medal of honor for each stage you will go to the expert mode. Also, that score will be saved into the game permanently, until someone else beats it. The number listed beside the level name is the score needed to achieve a medal of honor.
Title Screen Trick Number 1: At the title screen, wait a couple a seconds and then play with your analoug stick(kinky!). You can move the 64 around the screen and watch in stupefied and Fox, Slippy, Peppy and Falco follow the 64 around like mindless zombies.
Title Screen Trick Number 2: After you beat the game using any path, reset the machine, and when you see the characters start to talk on the title screen, just use the analog stick to move the 64 around.
Sound Test Mode To get the sound test mode so you can listen to all of Star Fox 64's low quality tunes(sorry, I had to), simply aquire ALL 15 medals in the main game.
Play Battle Mode with the Landmaster Tanks: To get the tanks in battle mode, you need to ONLY get the medal for Venom, the hard route.
Play Battle Mode on Foot: To play as the Star Fox team members (on foot), simply play the game on the EXPERT MODE and aquire a medal on Venom, the hard route.
Fight the Star Wolf Team in the Training Mode:Once you get to the all range mode during your training, you can practice against the Star Wolf Team that is if you want to. Just get 100 hits and Star Wolf will appear
Secret Star Fox Art: After the ending credits on expert there will be one of two secret pictures.
Turn Off Cross-hair: To turn off the cross-hair aiming device on Star Fox 64, simply press start and press the right shoulder button, and the square will disappear.
Warps, Medals, Tips:
Because multiple paths cannot be accessed as they were in the original Star Foxfor the 16-bit Super NES, here are a few tips to help you through this new 64-bit powerhouse. Also listed is the number needed for medals of honor.
Corneria To Sector Y: In Corneria (the first level), Falco will dodge out in front of you and then get chased by three skilled enemy pilots. Nail all of them, and you'll save Falco. Next, pass through all of the rock arches in the water stage of this same level. If you've done this correctly, Falco will guide you to an alternate passage, through a waterfall. If you defeat this water-based boss, youll be led to Sector Y.
Warp To Titania: As you near the end of the Meteor Field, there are about seven strategically placed blue rings. By passing through one youll immediately accelerate in a barrel roll. Go through all of them and youll hit light speed. Youll appear in Titania, a psychedelic, bonus-style level thats heavily influence by the old arcade game, Galaga. Note: This aint easy so keep trying.
Get To Aquas: Just get a score of 100 or higher in Sector Y to warp to Aquas, the submarine level. You can shoot down enemies or blast stationery canons, and as long as nail no less than 85 by the time you get to robot bosses at the end, youll be in good shape.
Macbeth To Area 6: As you approach the ending of the stage, shoot the red pillars with metal direction flags on them so they turn green. Watch them very carefully. (Hint: If you went to Zoness before coming to Macbeth, Cat will show up at your side and shoot those hard-to-reach switches.) At the end, where the switchboard light is, a switch will appear. Shoot that bad-boy and the track will move to the right. Now the boss kills himself. You get a deserved 50 point bonus for your troubles and you're off to Area 6!
Warp To Sector Z: Keep left at all times when in Sector X. You will eventually arrive at an area where you have to destroy white gates to pass through them. Demolish and blow those suckers sky high and pass through all of them. Youll then warp to Sector Z!
Zoneth To Sector Z: If you blast out all the spotlights in Zoneth and complete the stage, you then go to Sector Z. You should get some help from a certain feline.
Get To Katalina: When you hit the boss at the end of Sector X, shoot his head off (the boss with the big hands). When the second one grows, dodge him, and let Slippy fly in. Slippy will get a mouthful and be bashed all the way to Katalina. Kill this boss and then fly to Katalina to find and save Slippy. That Slippy, always causing trouble.
Kill Star Wolf Team Member Easily: This doesnt work when you meet the Star Wolf team on Venom under hard difficulty. First of all, let one of the Star Wolf team members follow you. Let him shoot at you. Immediately do a forward barrel roll. As the camera zooms out to show the roll back, the ship will fly past you and will head either to the right or left. Remember which direction they went as you fly back forward, while charging up a shot. Turn to the direction he was going, lock him in, let the power shot fly, then rapidly shoot him with lasers. With the blue double laser, he should be dead with no damage to you. If you use the single laser, you may have to do this twice.
Kill Star Wolf Team Member Easily (Venom - Hard): First of all, make sure you have as many friends as you can. This gives your buddies the job of distracting the ships so you can get the best possible shot. Bear in mind that the barrel roll deflects shots. Laser shots are the way to go; seeing as how bombs and such don't have any effect. Dont forget this: when one (or more) of these bad boys is on your tail, do a forward Barrel Roll or Loop Turn (down on the Control Stick and left C), and he should go under you and fly left or right. Then after powering up a shot, immediately search around left or right, and you should see the ship that was chasing you. Now is the time to get your shots in. You're going to have to repeat this step over a few times if you only have lasers, so dont lose your cool. Maneuver through all blue circles at the Asteroid level's end and shoot through a psychedelic bonus area
Moving Heads: Press B and move the D or Analog pad around the STarFox crew will track the moving numbers 64. Let go and they will stop. The 64 moves right back into place.
Levels:
Corneria–Medal: 150 Pts. The first level in StarFox 64, Corneria, is extremely easy. As with all the levels in this shooter, hit as many enemies as possible, using bombs as often as possible in clustered groups. Check the periphery and behind buildings for giant robots for as many as three extra points. Easy path: To branch to the easy areas, let Falco get blown down and follow Peppy through the open countryside in the middle of the level to the Robot Boss. Robot Boss (Easy): This fella is a cinch. Either shoot him straight down or knock out his spindly legs first, and then annihilate him with bombs and laser shots. He will launch rockets at your comrades, but they should do little damage is you shoot him down fast enough. He takes no more than two bombs and a few laser shots. Next (Easy) Level: Asteroid Level. Difficult path: To branch to the difficult section, make sure to look for Falco who will appear in front of you about half way through the level. Knock down Falco's opponents (using a big bomb is easiest, but it's more challenging to shoot them down with mere laser shots). Then, when the field opens up to the water area, thread a path underneath each rocky construct, without missing any. If you've done it right, Falco will arrive to lead you into a waterfall to another level with another boss. Next (Difficult) Level: Sector Y. Spacecraft Boss (difficult): This monkey is also simple to destroy. His asymmetrical arms are the weak points. Knock out each quickly and then shoot down the hull as it tries to blast your Arwing with fire blasts and guided rockets at your compadres. Don't worry about the rockets, just focus on knocking down the arms first, and you'll blow this guy in less than a minute.
Asteroid Belt Level-Medal: 200 The Asteroid Belt, another simple level designed for pure shooting mayhem, is easy and provides only a few challenges. Watch for large unshootable asteroids in the beginning which will crush you if you don't make use of the acceleration controls. A few other highlights in this level are the organic butterfly creatures and spiraling weavers which will also close in you if you're sloppy. Easy path: To continue on to Ficcina along the easy path, ignore the blue rings at the level's end and face the level's Junk Boss. Next (Easy) Level Ficcina Boss: Three flying robots attack you and your comrades. Knock down the first two with straight laser shots, and be quick to counter their zig-zagging maneuvers. After dispatching the first two, a third more powerful robot appears. Use your radar to keep track of this metallic nuasance and stick with straight laser because of his quickness. He's easy, too, and he'll stick out his launching platform as he becomes increasingly injured. Medium Path: To warp to the bonus ending, successfully thread all of the blue triangle-ringed rings near the level's end. If you do, you'll enter a fantastic, Galaga- and Asteroid- inspired shooting gallery packed with power-ups, bombs, and other goodies. If you were low on health, this level will come to your assistance like a loyal trooper. You will skip the boss if you take this route. Next (Medium) Level Katalina
Ficcina-Medal: 50 pts. A central structure is being attacked by enemy forces and you and your team must defend it. This level is completely free, with no rails. Knock down 50 fighters for a medal, just make sure that the structure isn't destroyed. This level is two-part, first knock down as many fighters as possible. Then knock down all of the StarWolf team members. Medium path: Kill off all of the StarWolf squadron and you're have saved the structure, which you'll then enter and warp to Solar. Next (Medium) Level Solar Level Easy path: You'll take the easy path of you don't knock down all of the StarWolf team members. A few key moves here will make your success much easier. Learn the Immelman (down with the analog stick and lower C button) and the loop (down on the analog stick and left C) to outwit the enemies. Next (Easy) Level Sector X Level
Sector X-Medal: 150 This level is noticeable because it branches to three different planets, Sector Z, MacBeth, and Titania. There are loads of enemy ships to blast away, and a tremendous level of floating debris and steel structures to avoid. Hit as many mines as possible for medal points. Easy path – Finsh the level and face the boss. If you let Slippy fly in while you're fighting the boss, Slippy will be thrown to Titania, where you must rescue him. Next (Easy) Level Titania Level Space Junk Boss: This boss is cool, mostly because of all of the annoying strategies he employs to knock you witless. Shoot at the whites of his eyes (they're actually yellow), until he dies. In his final rounds, he'll spin like a top, so fly upward to avoid his arms. When he's done and his eyes are knocked out, blast the upper section of his head, which will flash red when you hit the right section. If you die while trying to beat him, you're definitely in need of practice, but don't worry, each boss has a tremendously learnable pattern that can be counted on each time you encounter one of them. Medium path: Choose any path but make sure to kill the final boss as fast as possible, so that Slippy doesn't get captured. By doing this you'll warp to MacBeth, and then have the chance to warp to Area 6 afterward. Next (Medium) Level Macbeth Level Difficult path: Keep left at all times and you will happen upon an area (after the Checkpoint) where you have to quickly destroy white gates and pass through them. This will warp you to Sector Z. Awesome! Next (Difficult) Level Sector Z Level
Titania–Medal: 150 Another nefarious tank level (the other is MacBeth) that boasts killer landmines and monstrous spiders that hover above you and crush you if you kill them. In this level you'll save Slippy, your weak but somehow adorable comrade. Easy path: Make your way to the end by staying away from landmines and by knocking down as many cannons and aircraft as possible. The landmines are not shootable, so just forget it! Titania only leads to Boris, so just shoot away, and make sure to save your comrades in the air, they'll need it. Next (Easy) Level Volus Boss: A masked skeletal insectoid with spindly limbs, this boss has captured Slippy and you must rescue your buddy to make it through to the end. As usual, knock out his weak limbs first (try hitting the ones without Slippy first, ahem), and then shoot atthe head and upper torso to finish off this weakling. Use your hovering abilities toavoid his patterned tail swinging maneuvers and make use of your barrel rolls toavoid his laser shots. Once his arms are knocked loose, use only a few bombs area flurry of quick laser shots to end this poor soul's miserable life.
Volus-Medal: 150 Volus is a non-rail level with full 3D movement. This is the last space station including lots of enemy ships and an energy shield that must be destroyed inorder for you to begin attacking the core of the station. Easy path: There is only one way to go from here, and that's to Venom. If you fail to beat this level you'll have to start over (ugghhhh...). So, listen carefully. Go to the perimeter of area and find the pillars with ther energy beam flowing from them. Blow down all of these and their cannons supports (for extra goodies), to knock the entire shield down. The gravity will pull you around in a clockwise fashion, so just go with the flow and eventually you'll knock all of them down. Final Level Venom(Easy) Boss: Then the baddies arrive and within about a minute, you'll see a massive post appear from the center of the station. You'll need to manage killing off bad guys who are attacking your comrades while fending them off of your tail as well. But the primary goal is to knock down the central post. Small yellow nobules are scattered across post -- hit all of these and you'll beat the level and head toward Venom.
Venom Final Level (easy) Medal: 200 Many people thought that because they had beaten Venom on the easy level that they'd beaten the game. Wrong. Even with 15-plus levels in the game StarFox doesn't go light on replay value. Anyway, to beat Venom along the easy path, StarFox and crew must pass through a multipath area and beat a running stone-boss in a narrow corridor to actually face the deadly final boss. After defeating the Battle Station at Volus, the StarFox crew will enter the planet environment of Venom and pass through lots of obstacles, hordes of enemies that arrive in front and from behind, floating girders and plenty more. No matter which area you take, StarFox wil end up in a thin corridor with a stone-boss. Systematically shoot at each part of this boss his hands, feet, legs, shoulders, back, head, until each has been eliminated. In the meantime, he'll make girders and obstacles appear from nowhere to make hitting him very difficult. Although logic dictates here, while shooting, always look for the widest opeing, and remember to have patience you will kill him eventually. After beating this stone-boss, you'll finally confront Andross at Venom. There is a pattern to follow, and here it is. First aim you guns at his hands and try to eliminate these as fast as possible. Here are the hand patterns: One hand will swing twice, the other will swing once, he'll clap his hands, and then he'll start his vacuum breath. Hopefully you've saved some bombs. Fire one bomb into his mouth, and then pull back and blast his hands while he munches on this bad nut. He'll turn red and smoke will steam from his ears and this is when you'll want to shoot him again. Stay to the upper right or left of the screen after this because he'll attempt to suck you into his mouth again. Your brake meter (in the right upperhand part of your screen) will show you how much power you have and will power up a second time slowly after it runs out. After about three bombs into his mouth and a lot of shooting, he'll be history. Now he turns into a weird bat, and you'll also need to use your air-brakes to avoid much damage. Shoot this fella several times and you're beaten the easy level!
Katalina Level-Medal: 150 Katalina looks to be a level in which you defend a giant pyramid, and owes its tremendously gorgeous battle scenes, design, and giant flying saucer to the movie Independence Day. StarFox and team are attacked by a swarm of alien space ships that look just like the ones in the aforementioned movie and find assistance with a team of fighter jets as well. You only get points, however, for knocking down the alien ships. The object here is to kill as many alien ships as possible (hmmm...) and then knock out the extended structure that appears on the Mother ship's lower region in the last minute of the level. Keep your eye on the timer and the mother saucer because this little pointy extension only appears late in the stage, and if you're too busy killing off aliens, you'll miss out. Medium path: To reach Solar along the medium path, knock out the mother ship and save the pyramid at the level's end. Next (Medium) Level Solar Level Boss: This isn't an official 'boss,' it's more like a test of time and skill, like other levels when you encounter the StarWolf team. Here's the trick: Knock down as many of the little space saucers as possible (duh). Then, wait until the last minute or so of the level (the timer is in the upper right-hand corner) and attack the little extension that appears on the underbelly of the Mother space ship. In the last few moments, you can blow this piece up with either lots of lasers or a few bombs. The latter is recommendable. Blow this up and then defeated this space ship and save thepyramid city. Easy path: If you aren't able to knock out the mother ship, it'll send down a huge particle laser to annihilate the pyramid you so lousily defended. Even if you 'lose,' it's still really nice to see the explosion. If you take this direction, you'll warp to Sector X along the easy path, skipping Ficcina. Next (Easy) Level Sector X Level
Solar–Medal: 100 Pts. Unlike any of the other levels, Solar forces Fox to contantly re-energize with power-ups. The 'planet' you've visited is actually a more like a star, and the heat decreases your energy rapidly. In the first part of the level you'll just need to avoid the roaring blasts of fire. Then you'll start to see soaring boulders, which are power-ups. Flying sun-birds are also useful for bombs and laser power-ups, too. You must constantly search out these power-ups or you'll die of heat. there is only one direction from here and that's to MacBeth. Next (Medium) Level Macbeth Level Boss: Knock out the arms first and then shoot and the head and upper torso to knock off this amazing looking boss. The explosion this guy makes if nothing less than gorgeous.
Macbeth–Medal: 150 In this tank level, your powered-up hover tank will pass through torrid battle fields to destroy a winding train and its dangerous cargo. Easy path: Beat the level and the boss, but without hitting all of the red pillars with directional flags. Next (Easy) Level Volus Difficult Path: To get to Area 6, you must shoot red pillars with directional flags so that they turn green. These posts are scattered throughout the last part of the level, and hopefully you'll have cat to come and help you again. Knock these all out including a switch light and the train track will switch right. You won't have to fight the boss, who commits a strange long suicide. Next (Difficult) Level Area 6 Sector Y LevelÛMedal: 150 Difficult path: In this space sector, there are multiple large robots who are causing trouble for your alliance. The object here is to blast as any enemies as possible, while collecting power-ups along the way (sound familiar?). As with the beginninglevels, this one is easy to beat with minimal practice. There are a few different paths within this level, so watch when your team members appear and split off to different sides to find each intra-level branch. To branch to the hard levels (left) and to get to aquas, knock out more than 100 enemy craft. You need a minimum of 85 once you've reached the final boss. Next (Difficult) Level Aquas Boss: Three flying robots attack you and your comrades. Knock down the first two with straight laser shots, and be quick to counter their zig-zagging maneuvers. After dispatching the first two, a third more powerful robot appears. Use your radar to keep track of this metallic nuasance and stick with straight laser because of his quickness. He's easy, too, and he'll stcik aourn his launching platform as he becomes increasingly injured. Medium Path: To branch to the middle course, knock down less than 100 enemies (aerial or not), and defeat the final boss. Next (Medium) Level Katalina
Aquas–Medal: 150 Pts. Difficult path: The murky submarine level! You can only go to Zoneth from here, we believe. Your submarine is equipped with unlimted laser shot and unlimited torpedoes, you main weapon. Get to the level's end by avoiding explosive starfish, pulsar throwing creatures, falling boulders, and eliminating hostile squid. Open up clams for random bonuses, and knock out grouper fish with your laser for extra points. Next (Difficult) Level Zoneth Level Boss: A most interesting moss, the Giant Clam attacks with streaming dragon-worms from its outer barnacles and sends endless spheres to distract you from your destiny. The best way to quell this one-eyed monstrosity is to knock out its three barnacles first. Do this by launching torpedoes when the clam is closed; the torpedoes also dispatch the dragon-headed worms nicely. Once those are down, aim your lasers at the spindly muscles on each side of the clam. They will crystalize after a few seconds, so send a torpedo at each one until it disappears, then dispose of the other in a similar fashion. Now the clam is in crisis and its center area will begin flashing red. A big tongue will appear but when it goes down go berserk by sending as many laser shots as possible intermixed with torpedoes until it dies. It's more fun than a clam bake.
Zoneth–Medal: 250 Pts. A beautiful oceanic level filled with aeriel and sea creatures, this oil-rig area enables two paths. Of course, the object is to blast everything in sight, but in order to continue on in the difficult area, you must knock out all of the lighthouse towers. Cat makes a guest appearance here to assist you with towers more difficult to get at. Medium path: Miss any one of the search lights and you're headed to MacBeth. Next (Medium) Level Macbeth Level. Difficult path: Knock out all of the search lights scattered throughout the level and you'll be on your way to Sector Z. Hitting all of the search lights requires you to dodge and swerve a lot. Cat will appear to help you a bit with the difficult lights (if you don't shoot at her). Next (Difficult) Level Sector Z Level Oil Rig Boss: At first this mechanical behemoth seems impossible to defeat, but, like all bosses in StarFox, a systematic strategy exists to kill it. On the boss's head are two revolving snorkels or pipes, which must be taken down first. Use bombs to knock them off. Following these, you'll knock out either one of the arms (also using bombs), and then quickly dispatch of the crane before the floating, bobbing boss turns around and hauls its arms back up from the depths. Destroy silver spheres jetting from the bosses arms to transform them into bombs for your own use. The crane takes two to three direct hits. Once the crane is down, avoid the launching anchor (the silver sphere in the center), knock down the final limb, and sink this sorry junker to the bottom of the sea where it belongs.
Sector Z–Medal: 100 In this space shooting level, StarFox and team must defend the mother ship from a swarm of encircling enemy ships in deep space. Easy path: Miss a single missile and you're mother ship will lose a fin, which will send you and your team all the way to Volus on the other side of the system. Next (Easy) Level Volus Difficult path: Knock out all of the incoming missiles and you'll head on out to Area 6. Next (Difficult) Level Area 6 Missile Bosses: The difficult part is to keep the a series of incoming missiles from destroying the mother ship. Single missiles blast in from outer space to knock down the goose ship and you have a limited amount of time to destroy them before they succeed. Each arrives off the ships front right side. They arrive in waves, one followed by another single, and then three side-by-side missiles arrive to finish the job. Kill the first two waves with your laser fire, if you can. Save all of your bombs for these last three. The best way to knock these off is to shoot at them as you're flying toward them, and them make an Immelman and backtrack. Follow them with bombs and as much fire power as you can, flying as closely and as slowly as you can. Why slowly? Well, since you're traveling at the exact speed of the missiles, you must maneuver yourself just behind them or there is no way to hit them. Cat will appear again to help you out. You must destroy these bombs as quickly as possible, or you will be forced to take the easy route to Boris, and then the easy boss, Venom. Destroy all the missiles and then continue on to Area 6.
Area 6–Medal: 300 With a full team, attacking Area 6 is still a massive task, especially to earn a medal, but it's doable. As usual, hit as many ships as possible and also aim at the tips of the spinning top-like space stations for as many as three extra points. Enemy ships are faster and shoot more fire at you herte than in any other level and it's truly spectacular. Almost every enemy ship you've ever faced will appear to have a go at you. Difficult path: There is only one way to go in this level and that's to Venom 2, the hard one. And before you face him you'll have to beat the super fast trigger happy StarWolf team first.
Final Level Venom(Difficult) Boss: This boss is a full-purpose space station with enemy heat-seeking missiles, firing ships, a massive energy beam, and three expanding claws which come out to grab you if care isn't taken. To beat this fella, blow of his three external arms first. He will open up like a clam and three pink energy beams rotate around the core will appear. This is weak area. Hit all these before the shell closes up. It will close and open several times and you must repeat this same formulaic pattern at least three times, until a massive beam practically fills the screen. Avoid this by hovering around the perimeter of the screen in a clockwise motion. When the station opens again, the three pink radiating arms will appear again, this time rotating much faster. Nail these and then pummel the core as fast as you can. You can actually annihilate this boss with just laser shots in this last section. Once you've done this perfectly, you'll receive a hit plus 10, and you'll fly to face the Star Wolf team. Venom Final Level (Difficult) StarWolf Team- Once you've finally beaten back the enemy ships that are out to destroy your mother ship in Sector Z, you'll confront the StarWolf team again, and this time they're much meaner, faster, and more deadly. To beat these guys, you'll have to master the loop maneuver first and foremost; the Immelman (the reverse half loop) also comes in handy. Hopefully, you've saved a bomb for this level. The only time it comes in handy is when the StarWolf team first appears over the center structure. Shoot it immediately and watch as the baddies lose as much as a third of their health. Then you'll have to start in on them. Let a baddie trail you and get close, as soon as he starts shooting, barrel roll and then loop over and behind them. You'll get a few shoots in each time. Also look for comrades who are being trailed and get good hits in here. Practice makes perfect here, and once you start dusting guys, you'll see how it actually all comes together. Remember this: If someone is trailing you, loop quickly or you will lose a lot of health fast. The Big Boss (Big Monkey Head)- This guy is actually the same as in the easy level. The Big Boss II (the big Brain and Eyes)- You must destroy the swimming eyes first before getting the brain. They will chase you and are decent at following you with a medium amount of stealth. Let these weird, blood-shot eyes follow you and just when they start shooting, loop around behind them and blast them. Killing them off brings you five-plus hit points each. Now you face the brain. Be very careful and stay as far away from it as possible or it will steal more than one-third of your shield each time it sucks you into its spaghetti-like ganglia. The medulla oblongatta -- the green back area -- is what you need to aim at. But here's the catch, this brain will protect this area by disappearing and laying little mines. These aren't the biggest worry though, the biggest worry is trying to get around to its back side to shoot the green area. Here's what we did and it worked: Let the brain follow you and then perform an Immelman over it (occasionally this won't work). Now watch your map and see which way the brain turns. More than 70% of the time it'll simply turn around and be right back on your tail again. But the other 30% it'll make a slightly wider turn, and this is when you must seize your oppportunity. Whichever way it turns, go the opposite way, i.e. if it turns left, since your facing the opposite way, turn left. Likewise to the right. Perform this maneuver two to three times and you're on your way to finishing the game. We found simple laser shots were best here, but bombs should also work if aimed perfectly. In the the final section, a familiar looking fox with glasses (hmm...) appears and tells you to follow him. Stay close by using your accleration as he leads you through the corridors out of the enemy hub. One wrong turn and you must start over. When you finally reach the opening, you will beat it! Watch the reaction of Fox.
