MUDs

What is a MUD, you ask? Well, MUD is an acronym for Multi-User Dungeon. Basically it's a roleplaying game with the computer as the Dungeon Master (and a few immortals too) and other people from all over the world as the other players. MUDs are primarily used for adventuring and questing within the game, but there are times when you will spend hours just talking to new-found friends or catching up with old ones. When I first log on, it sometimes takes me an hour before I can even start playing because I want to say hi to all my friends!

When you enter a MUD, your character is a mortal. You will notice that there are immortals on the game as well. These are the policemen and the creators of the MUD. They are there to code the new areas of the game and to help out mortals. Usually, these immortals used to be mortals like you, but when your character gets to be very powerful, he or she is given the option to 'wiz' and become immortal. The immortals are always willing to help you out if you have any questions or discover any bugs in the game code. They are also the ones who deal with any serious problems such as cheating on quests, or harrassing other players.

Also please note that although many MUDs allow pkilling (killing other players) Angalon has abolished the practice and the code does not allow for it anymore.
