BLACKWELL TAKES LEEDS
Former Leeds and Gateshead striker Andrew John Blackwell has returned
to Elland road were he started his career. Leeds chairman Billy Johnston
said that he was delighted to have Blackwell back at Elland Road as the
former striker who scored 86 goals for the Leeds outfit has a wide range
of knowledge in the game. Blackwell started his career in the youth leagues
at Stanley Oakland but soon moved to Leeds after scouts spotted him. After
5 successful year at Elland road winning the 1992 league championship after
partening Eric Cantona Blackwell broke his leg against Southampton on December
the 26th 1993 and moved to Conference side Gateshead were he spent his career
ever since even going into the Unibond division after relagation in 97/98.
Blackwell was a favourite with the Leeds fans but appart from his 40 England
youth caps and 10 England B appearences Blackwell never broke into the full
england squad. Blackwell took charge of Gateshead as caretaker manager after
relagation from the Conference until Mattie Pearson was appointed by John
Gibson.
Percival Rumoured at Villa
Former England International Alan Percival was spotted at Villa park
last weeks as speculation grows over john Gregories future at the club.
It is believed that the club want to appoint Percival as a replacement as
John Gregory faces the sack. Percival made 20 England Appearences scoring
4 international goals 3 of them coming against Canada in 1982. Percival
is beleived to be interested in some none-league setup at Gateshead if he
receives the job at Villa. Keith Fletcher and Tony Hall who play at Unibond
side Gateshead are beleived to be going for 4 week trials at the greatest
under achieving side ever. Some Manchester United fans also believe that
Alan is going to Old Trafford but an announcment is thought to be made shortly.
I WANT GLORY GLORY GLORY
Glasgow Rangers Chairman Ross McDougall has said that he wants glory
glory glory for the Glasgow side from whoever he appoints as new manager.
Rangers are one of the favourites in Division two. McDougall said
"Its going to be a tough season for us with the likes of Leeds,
Man Utd and Aston Villa in our league but I assure you our squad is one
of the strongestin the two divisions and with our new strike force on form
we cant do no wrong."
He also said
"Mols is a top act and I expect him to get at least 20 goals this
season. I love the way he plays and I will refuse every offer that comes
from him as Leeds and Arsenal have been interested in him."
BLACKWELL IS SO KEANE
New Leeds manager Andrew Blackwell is said to be interested in Coventry
super star Robbie Keane. The speculation comes just days after Keane signed
for Coventry but Leeds are believed to be offering as much as 12 million
for the Irish striker. Blackwell is also interested in French new comer
Luis Saha for 2 million after his goal against West Ham in the Inter Toto
cup and his impressive loan spell at Newcastle. But the French side Metz
who have Saha on a five year contract refuse to talk to Blackwell or anyone
else who is interested in Saha. |
