Info on Final Fantasy 8

Well, Final Fantasy VIII info. is scarce, but what I've found indicates this new RPG is going to be pretty good. A press conference was held on May 15 in Japan to announce the game. The main theme is said to be Love, and you can tell that by the Logo.

BattlesIt looks as if Limit Breaks will be returning, and of course, Summon Spells. Your summoned monster can actually gain experience during the battle. I would assume the ATB(active time battle) will be back, and there is more screen space during the battle than there was in FF7. Meaning, you'll see more of the battle then just your characters and the information screen. There isn't even going to be the blue info box at the bottom of the screen. When it's your characters turn, their stats will pop up.

Walking around/The world mapDuring the game, when your characters are exploring around, we'll be able to see all the party members on the screen! They won't be as S.D. (super-deformed, a.k.a, Chibi form) as we remember Cloud was on the world map.

CharactersThe characters are less anime, and have more realistic features. So far two characters have been introduced. The main character, a 17 yr. old Squall Leonhart, seems to be the same in equivalence to our FF7 hero, Cloud. And another man by the name of Laguna Loire; A cheerful 27 yr. old who used to be a soldier but is now a journalist. There were two other characters introduced, but not much is known about them yet. A woman named Lenore/Rinoa, a man named Zell/Zeru. The names aren't really determined yet, considering the difference of japanese translations.

SceneryScenery in the game is much brighter than that of FF7, and more futuristic. I am sure the FMV's will be awesome. Take a look at some screenshots here.

Chocobos! It seems those cute little birds known as the chocobos are returning! They are said to be more realistic looking this time as well. ...(truly, I don't think how there could be another FF game without them. They're famous!) ;)

The Vice-President of Square, Hironobu Sakaguchi, plans on making the storyline more detailed than the previous games, and is "Trying to find a more effective form of graphical expression for the storyline."

So far the U.S. release of FF8 is deadlined for the fall/winter of 1999... That's a good long time away...Until then I'll probably be awaiting Xenogears which comes out in October, and I'm still trying to master Final Fantasy Tactics...(WHY IN THE ABYSS CAN'T I BEAT THAT GAME!!!???) @_@ blah...
