Step 12
Flag Pole
You now have to drill the hole for the flagstaff cause it's alot easier now than after the poopdeck is glued down to the hull.
I substituted the C12 part (flag pole) for a piece of
1mm fiber. I found now way possible to drill C12 and
pass a fiber through it so substitution was the only
answer.
Cut a 5" piece of 1mm fiber but before you cut at 5",
bend it at 90 degrees and cut it just after the bend.
The bend will actually be your light on the flag pole.
See illustrations below.
The cut at the bend should be done at an angle parallel
to the horizon.
Make
sure bend is firm and fiber doesn't rebend on it's own !
Now comes the hard part !
The second peice of fiber should be cut an angle that
will fit nicely just over the bend.
Using a holding apparatus position both peices of fiber
so they touch and using a pin spot of CA glue,
gently drop glue on the joint and allow to dry.
Once dry, cut the pole at the right length approx. 3/4
" (2cm) for the above the deck part. You can use part C12 as a reference.
Leave 4-5 inches of fiber for the part that will be underneath the poopdeck.
At the top end of the pole drop a round drop of CA glue
to make the ball. You can leave the ball unpainted and this will add an
extra light point at the tip of the pole.
At the bend now trim the horizontal bend so it's almost
flush to the actual pole.
Make the guide for the fiber on the hole using a pinvise as seen below.
Make sure your fiber passes properly and keep in mind where the end will go in respects to your bulbs inside the hull. Dry fit the fiber as seen below.
Now your ready to paint your new flag pole Flat White
and then brown for the top half.
Don't forget to scrape the paint off of the light spot
.
