Balance. Harmony and perfection. Then, movement. Thought.
Balance shattered. From the pieces emerged Light. Sentience.
Retaliation. Balance created Darkness. Gave it form and
will. One thought. Destroy the Light. The First Soul opened her eyes and
smiled.
"I am Lillith. Darkness Incarnate. I obey."
She cast her sight over Existance and saw Light's creations. She touched
various of these souls with her Essence. "These I claim. My Children.
My Warriors."
Once soul resisted her. Lucifer. She teased him, whispering
of Dark Desire and even darker Pleasures. Tempted though he was, he resisted
her. She mocked him. Mocked his weakness. "Why serve?"
she asked scathingly. "You have Power. Rebel and rule."
Lillith's laughter cut into Lucifer.
"I will rule and you shall serve me!"
he declared. Lillith merely smiled. The rebellion failed and, broken and
defeated, Lucifer was cast forever from the Light. He crawled to Lillith's
mocking embrace.
Light saw the form of Lillith and was pleased. It gave
form to one of its souls. Thus was Adam born into eternity. Lillith offered
friendship to Adam and he, dazzled by her Dark Beauty, accepted. Together
they created a place of happiness. Light gave form to other souls and they
populated this wonderous garden.
Lillith saw yet another chance to corrupt Light. She
went to Adam and promised him Dark Pleasures, if only he would serve her
completely. Adam felt the stirrings of desire and very nearly gave in,
but resisted at the last moment. He cast her away from the Garden. Lillith
vowed revenge.
Light gave her that chance. Adam, having felt the beginnings
of desire, begged Light for a companion who was biddable. Thus was Eve born.
Lillith had learned of a tree whose fruit gave Mortality to those who ate
it. Whispering into the night, she called Eve from her rest. Eve found
the tree and in its branches rested a snake whose body housed the Soul
of Lillith.
Using sweet words, she convinced Eve to eat of the fruit.
Eve bit, chewed, and swallowed. At that moment, Eve's form became solid
flesh and bone. Lillith, still in snake form struck Eve and drained her
of life.
Just as quickly, Lillith entered the body of Eve. She
then took some of the fruit to Adam. Tempting and teasing, she got him
to eat it. Light saw and was angry. A curse was spoken: "Adam,
for the weakness you have shown, all of your kind shall suffer the same
weakness. Ever will you give in to desire. Ever will you be prey to the
needs of the flesh."
"You who are now Eve, the body you have chosen
you will inhabit until death. As you have brought death so it will be the
curse of your kind to renew life. The pain of bearing this new life will
remind all of how you brought mortality to the world. As it is spoken,
so shall it be!"
Lillith, who was now Eve, lived, bore children, aged,
and, finally, was ready to die. As she lay on her deathbed, she was visited
by a vision of Balance. And it spoke to her saying, "You have failed.
Light still exists. For that you are cursed. You will be fated to be reborn
into mortal form, live, die, and be reborn again, remembering every detail
of every life you shall ever live until Light is no more. As it is spoken,
so shall it be!" And with that she breathed her last.
An epitath appeared in later centuries on the headstone
of a known witch, "I am Lillith and I am Eve The first to tempt,
the first to deceive."
