The Runica Original Soundtrack

Composed by Seth Brown using Midisoft Recording Session

Enhanced with NoteWorthy Composer

Runica was a Final Fantasy-like story I've been writing in my head as I've assembled these tunes. I'm not skilled in game programming, so I simply write music based on game IDEAS.
Here's the sequence of tunes:
Main Title
If Runica was a console game, this is what you would hear after you turn on the power. (Since more than likely it'll be a PC game, you hear it when you begin running the game.)

Runica
Every RPG has an opening storyline. This tune would play behind the text as it scrolls up the screen.

Kirq's Theme
One of the main characters. A loyal knight of Aeril. Great fighter, but beware...he has a mischievous sense of humor. The music is also for the castle where Kirq lives. This is one of my favorite tunes; the only gripe is that the string melody is buried beneath the fanfaring trumpets.

Grasslands Theme
The overworld music for the territory around Melinn. Reminiscent of the FF2 map theme.

Melinn Province
A small province Kirq has gone to at their request for help. I went for a simple tune this time...quite nice.

Nate's Theme
Nate is a Technic; in other words, he likes to build and use beam guns. Somewhat of a bashful character, but he can be as prankish as Kirq sometimes...

Cave Theme
A spooky cave...simple tune but effective. NOTE: the piano melody is lifted from a motif I heard playing behind the second verse of "Armchair Quarterback" by Ray Stevens. I'm wondering if I should change it for plaigerism concerns. Comments?

Battle Cry
What's an RPG without those great turn-based battles?!? This exciting little ditty is clearly inspired by the Final Fantasy wars...

Victorious
...And when the battle is won, there MUST be a fanfare! Reworking of Kirq's theme.

A Furious Clash
There are monsters...and there are BOSSES! Exciting battle music is in order, and that's what I tried to do.

Welcome to Centren!
Jolly little town theme. This is the VERY FIRST MIDI I EVER WROTE...and unfortunately it shows. Most of the notes are staccato-sounding. But still not bad for a first attempt! I may do a major rewrite for a future release...we'll see.

Mountain Theme
Let's go mountain climbing! Brisk little tune that gets me going...

Isla's Theme
Lookie! a NAME!!! :) Yep, thanks to Reenie Tsukino, a fan who wrote me, the mysterious fem is to be called Isla. This bouncy Tejano-like track suggests that she is like Ayla from Chrono Trigger. To whoever had suggested the FIRST name...I'm sorry :(

Desert Theme
This tune is FANTASTIC, and one of my personal favorites! The setting is the desert...much like the Veldt from Final Fantasy III. Good percussion (drum tracks aren't my forte, so for me this IS an improvement...). One of my friends said it was Yanni-like... I'll let you decide. When I heard it on an AWE32, I was stunned. "I wrote THAT?!?" (Sounds great on WinGroove, too!)

Reyalis Province
The theme for the town and castle of Reyalis. Pleasant pop-like tune with a good vibraphone lead. I don't like the drumwork on the middle section, though...

Kanya's Theme UPDATED
Another female character in the game. Kanya is the princess of Reyalis. Everyone considers her to be a quiet beauty. But when she cuts loose...WATCH OUT! This is one of the most beautiful piece I've written so far, and it's now at it's intended length with NO CHOPPY GUITAR NOTES. The definitive version until the S3M comes out...

Invasion!!!
Enemy forces are invading Reyalis! Divide up your members, add some Reyalis soldiers, and pick off the units one by one. The battle would be similar to the multiparty sequences in FF3, much like the Battle of Narshe. Exciting tune, but the middle drum passage needs some sharpening, and there's an annoying drop-off at the end. (FF3 this and FF3 that...I was in love with that game at the time...)

Struggle With Evil
Some bosses are bigger than others...After a long intro, this tune breaks down into its exciting main passage. Pretty good...this one's for you, Magus-X...

Tears That Fall
Per a request to use the Runica material, this new track was created for sad events in the story. Unlike the others, it's a short clip instead of a full song.

Ocean Theme
I envision this as a sailing theme for a ship. One of my favorites.. Kind of wistful...

Forest Theme
There's bound to be some forests in this world. This tune is a little different from my other works, but it's great!

Flying ThemeUPDATED
Much like an airship, it would be nice to have a way to FLY around the world. So here's the flying theme. At the request of a fan, I've sped up the tempo, changed the intro and middle, and now it's much more cheerful than before. Enjoy.

Tropics Theme
The map music for the tropics. Nice little cheerful piano line, good scattering of congas.

Bayona Province
Cheerful tune for a tropical town. Perhaps the cutest tune I've assembled. One word:MARIMBAS!!! And plenty of them! I can't listen to this tune without smiling!

The Island Chain
A tropical town that consists of little islands strung together. I REALLY enjoy this tune...the drum track is the most complex I've written by hand for the Runica suite.

Giddiyap!!!
Jouncy little theme for a brisk horseback ride. My tribute to chocobos everywhere...

Imparius Province
This is a music for the town and castle of Imparius. BIG sound, gives the essence of greatness. It would be perfect, but again notes are disappearing on me!

Arctic Theme
A cold, wintery region in the world. The music is in a traditional FF-map style, and gives it a calm, beautiful air. Sadly, once again note drop-offs plague another potentially good tune. Sigh...

Glace Province
The icy town of Glace. I think this tune vies with Kanya's Theme for the title of Most Beautiful Runica Theme. It's very relaxing and maybe a little sad.

What The...?!?
That's what you'll say after hearing this weird little passage for all the funny and bizarre stuff that can happen in an RPG like this.

Technical Nightmare
UPDATE The villain of the game awaits in a UFO above the world (gee...where have we heard THAT before? I need to get original or something...), and this is the music for wandering around in it. I kinda like the bass and the guitar in the background of this tune. I've rewritten the middle sections to brek up the drone a little. Hope you like it...

Supreme Evil Arising
-THE LAST BATTLE...THE FINAL FACEOFF AGAINST THE ULTIMATE EVIL...etc etc etc...pretty exciting and energetic, but a tune-up is still in order. Believe it or not, THIS is the SECOND MIDI I ever wrote! I was delighted...and now even more so that you can hear it as I intended! The full length track with a better cutoff is what you'll hear.

Just a few comments on the Runica suite:
Since music in a game generally loops around for particular scenes, I tried to write the tunes to repeat at least twice to give you a sense of how they would be in the game. Still, they are only "arranged" versions of the tunes, not quite what they'd be like in the game itself.

Enjoy the music!
