CMR-12 Satyros Combat Mountanering Robot
RPG Stats and Background by: Rick R. Mortis.

Technical Info from the Robotech Technical Files, by Robert Morgenstern.

BACKGROUND

The Satyros was devised as an engineering robot used to reclaim nose-dived Zentraedi warships, to help construct defensive emplacements in mountainous terrain and to provide mobile hardened command, control, communications, and intelligence (C3I) relay stations for alpine infantry. After the Zentraedi Holocaust and the following years of unrest and uncertainty, many communities desired more protective locations in out of the way locations, such as canyons and blast craters. As such, the Satyros frequently assisted in building these communities, when their duties didn't keep them occupied elsewhere.

Due to the poor radio propagation environment of mountainous terrain, the Satyros assisted the Alpine forces of the Tactical Corps in maintaining communications between their units. This battloid was equipped with a powerful communications relay capability that is evidenced by the twin arrays located to either side of the head. The Mk. I was an unarmed military construction/salvage/mining robot for use in the mountains. With the Southern Cross Army originating in South America, they quickly discovered the vulnerability of this mecha in a combat situation without built-in weapon systems. Therefore, the Southern Cross Robotech Research Department devised an armed refit for this battloid to assist in mountainous combat arenas in the Andes mountains. After years of use of the Mk. I, the Southern Cross designed a newer version optimised for its combat role as well as keeping its engineering capabilities to support the Southern Cross in mountainous terrain referred to as the Mk. II. With its powerful winches, the Satyros was also used as an armoured recovery vehicle and in maintenance areas to lift heavy equipment.

Many Satyros were destroyed during the Second Robotoech War by the tehnologically superior Bioroids, or during the Invid Invasion. Several Satyros equipped units did survive the invasion, and managed to carry on succesful gurilla campaigns against the Invid in the Andes and other mountainous areas.

    1. EU-10 Gun Pod. The main weapon of the Satyros is a hand-held EU-10 Energy Rifle, very similar to the EU-11 used by the VHT-1 Hover Tank.
    2. Short-Range Missile Launcher. The Satyros has a short-range missile launcher in the chest. The missiles are concealed behind an armoured panel, which flips open to fire.
    3. Grapplers. While designed for mountaineering and salvage rather than combat, the Satyros’s grapplers can be used as weapons, but only do minimal damage.
    4. Hand to Hand Combat. Rather than use any weapons, the Satyros can opt to engage in hand to hand combat.
    5. Optional E-21 Gun Pod. Rather than use the EU-10, the Satyros can use the E-21 Gun Pod. The E-21 has it's own built-in targeting system, adding a +2 bonus to strike with the gun pod.
