Nintendo Books

Over the past few years, a good number of NES-related books have accumulated. These range from picture books to tip guides to novels. In this section, we'll take a brief look at some of these.

How to Win At Nintendo 1-4

This book series is rather dull, there are no pictures and the author discusses gaming strategies more than actual tips and codes. This setup is ideal for RPG's however, because at the time RPGs were mostly text-based anyways. These are pretty similar to the text FAQs you find on the net these days. Still, the game ratings and reviews are nice, you get about 30 game reviews per book. These would be worth $3-4 a pop if you're looking for a published collection of reviews.

Nintendo Golden Books

Although I only have one of these, I think it's safe to assume that all these are basically the same. I'm sure you're familiar with the Golden Books format: a 20 page picture book with a few sentences on each page. Not that that's a bad thing, the illustrations are quite pleasing to the eye.

Here's the cover of my Zelda book:

Nintendo Comics

For the first year or two after the Gameboy was released, there was a series of comic books published by Valiant Comics, that were based loosely on some NES games. The ones I recall are: Super Mario Bros. 3, The Legend of Zelda, and a pretty crappy Gameboy comic.. I have one copy of a Zelda, and one of a Gameboy, someday I'll scan them for y'all.
