About Asmia
Hello, my name is Aliki. Besides being Greek, I think I'm a pretty normal person... Though my friends will probably disagree with me. I will admit to being a very busy person, and am usually to difficult to pin down for longer than five minutes in any one place. For example...
On December 20th, 2003, I had the joy of fulfilling one of my life-long dreams and graduated from Oakland University with a bachelors degree in English. Seven years into the college plan, I finally finished. A great many sacrifices were made to finish my schooling career, but I survived. I recommend college for anyone that doesn't have a degree. It's full worth it because no less than 2 months later, I landed an awesome job where I have my own office and everything. But I'll talk about that in a minute.
School was great, but what made it great was the extracurricular activities I participated in, and at times, ran. I have held every position from secretary all the way up to president of the Gaming Guild of Oakland U. Though stressful much of the time, the group of dedicated gamers that are constantly involved are a great bunch of people. If you get the chance, every April the Guild puts on a gaming convention in the Oakland Center on campus called Starcon. I coordinated the con for 3 years in a row, and it's growing into quite a respectful little convention. When I graduated, I also had to pass the presidential torch to the next in line, who is doing a great job. Thanks Sam!
Paying for school was fun, being a full time hairdresser at Fantastic Sams. Don't get me wrong, I love doing hair...which is why I probably haven't kicked the habit yet. The creativity that my clients allow me is hard to find in every day life, so I'm not looking at quitting any time soon. But I did cut back to part-time. The great gals at the Fantastic Sams on Walton and Livernois are a great bunch of gals. Stop in and get a great haircut from Vida if you can. She does amazing work. (And cuts my hair too!)
Now for what I do now....My official title is the Marketing Services Manager for the payments processing company Standard Payments, LLC. I love my job, and thankfully, my job loves me. I write press releases, re-design the website, handle customer care issues, compile market research, and lots of other stuff. Plus I have my very own office. I feel very special, and super spoiled. And the best thing is my boss is a super intelligent guy that has no problems teaching me all the stuff in his head. I like that part...a lot.
I'm sure you're asking yourself, what does this gal do for fun? Well, I do have some other commitments that are more enjoyable than a normal working environment. For example, I tutor a great 11 year old girl that is having trouble keeping up with the rest of her class. For those of you that don't know, at one point in life, I wanted to be a teacher. Tutoring helps release that part of me, and I get to see the progress of knowledge right before my eyes. It's very fulfilling for me.
I am also in a dance troupe called Causing A Scene Productions. We are a choreographed dance troupe that has performed in various venues like Luna, Q, The Movement, and the Tangent Gallery to name a few. I had my debut performance at the Movement Festival on Memorial Day weekend '04. What a rush! It's a great show, so if you get a chance, go and see the group 'cause a scene' somewhere.
Well, as you can see, I'm a pretty busy gal! I love my life though, and wouldn't change a thing about it. I have a great guy to share my hyper moments with, along with my tears...so things are going well for me!
