Pros and Cons of the first GDS
Tourney
By GDS_RWCANUCK
Congrats first of all to Sendog..the winner of the 1st GDS
tourney. Blackhound did a superb job hosting the event May 22/23. Players which signed on
and didn't appear without any excuse for being absent should NOT be allowed in any future
tourneys. What I was afraid of came true, the bad connection problem killed off several of
the players including myself..(at least I can say I went undefeated in the few games I did
play).
I know time is a problem to start these
events but we should stick to a time and NOT change it..it gets frustrating when you
initially plan your day around a certain starting time and find out a few days before the
event the time had changed!
Anyway, kudos go to SgtEvans for the bulk of
the groundwork to make this first Tourney a success with a game that has its
problems; and to all the participants for their great sportsmanship and humour in the face
of all the con problems.
The next tourney should even be better!
My two cents:)

Urban Warfare, now there are two words that
will get my attention on even the worst of days. Photographic images that show such places
as the gutted and twisted ruins of Stalingrad come to mind. Alan Clark wrote a book
called, Barbarossa, The Russian-German Conflict, 1941-1945. In his book, Clark speaks
about the conditions of the fighting that took place in the urban nightmare that was the
Battle of Stalingrad:
"At Stalingrad each separate battle resolved itself into a
combat between individuals. Soldiers would jeer and curse at their enemy across the
street; often they could hear his breathing in the next room while they reloaded;
hand-to-hand duels were finished in the dark twilight of smoke and brick dust with knives
and pickaxes, with clubs and twisted steel." Continue
