The following are excerpts from audiotapes recorded during the years 1956-1977 by Colonel Robert Clayton, and sent to his nephew, Lee Stetson.

March 10, 1957

ORDERS OF DAY

FROM: Capt. Robert Clayton

TO: Master Lee Stetson

I will be arriving at the air base in six days.

I have left instructions with Mr. Harry Thornton to see that you are placed on the plane on the 18th.

My aide, Lt. Franks will meet you at the airport and bring you to the base. I will meet you there. Remember that space will be limited in my quarters so you must pack only what is necessary.

Do as your elders tell you and don't talk too much to strangers during the flight. The stewardess will see to your needs.

May 8, 1957

ORDERS OF THE DAY

FROM: Capt. Robert Clayton

TO: Master Lee Stetson

Happy Birthday, nephew. I'm sorry I can not be with you today, but Lt. Frank's will see to it that you have a proper celebration.

Re: Your request to participate in your class field trip. I have asked Lt. and Mrs. Frank's about your behavior and they tell me you have been a credit to the corps while I have been gone. Accordingly, I give my permission and will notify the school of that immediately.

I will be returning to the base in two weeks. I look forward to seeing your final grades for this school year. I have no doubt you will be promoted to the second grade.

As always, I expect to hear the best from the Franks' re: your deportment until I return. I know you will be a squared away airman.

October 31, 1957

ORDERS OF THE DAY

FROM: Capt. Robert Clayton

TO: Master Lee Stetson

I expect you to do the following today:

Before leaving for school, your bunk and personal effects must be squared away. The slipshod behavior of the past week is not acceptable.

Immediately after school, you are to report to my office, where we will go over your homework assignments.

You will then return to our quarters and change into your Halloween costume, returning to my office so that I can inspect you before you go out.

At 1830 hours, you will accompany Mrs. Frank's to the mess hall for the Halloween festivities.

I will meet you there at 2030 hours and escort you back to our quarters.
