Hello to all Clan O'Maolanfaidh members and guests, |
I hope you will consider joining us for a day of sharing family information, fellowship and fun. We will gather on Saturday, August 11, 2001 for the First International Congress of the Clan O'Maolanfaidh at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. While the "main events" of the weekend will occur on Saturday, we will also have opportunity for early arrivals to gather on Friday evening and on Sunday morning as we say our goodbyes. We also hope to arrange a family worship service on Sunday morning. If this can be arranged, information on the service will be sent to those who register. |
Our very special guest speaker for this reunion will be Dan Mellamphy of Auckland, New Zealand. Dan has studied the ancient history of the Clan O'Maolanfaidh for many years, serves as President of his local genealogical society, and is in touch with members of our clan from all over the world. I think you will find his information informative and entertaining! We will also have with us members of the family from Ireland, Boysie and Nell Molamphy Moore and Mick Molamphy. They live near the east shore of Lough Derg/Shannon River in County Tipperary, a common home place for many of the branches of the family. Some of you had the pleasure of meeting them on their earlier trips to the U.S.A. and others will have the pleasure of getting to know them and hearing about the family roots in Co. Tipperary. |
Our reunion will be held at Hood College, my alma mater. My husband, Michael, and I will host the meeting spaces used for the reunion and the music on Saturday night but ask that you contribute to the cost of meals for your family as shown on the registration form. Information for on-campus housing as well as accommodations at the hotel most convenient to the College is given on the enclosed information sheet. Please consider staying over so you can stay to chat, relax, and not have to worry about the drive home! |
To assist us in planning, please provide your anticipated arrival day and time on the enclosed registration sheet. If you will arrive in Frederick by early Friday evening, you are welcome to join us for a "Dutch treat" dinner. Depending on the numbers of guests for Friday, we may have dinner at the College or may go to an area restaurant. Details will be provided to registrants for Friday. Following our Saturday picnic supper, we will enjoy Celtic music selections from Jim Lawrence of Fredericksburg, VA. |
We are planning a Power Point presentation of pictures of past and present family members during our initial gathering time on Saturday. I think it will be a good way to learn about our family heritage and to better get to know each other. Even if you are not able to attend, please send me a photo or two of your family (with family members identified) by August 1. We especially would like photos of our earliest ancestors and family members, but do not send irreplaceable originals in the mail. Please have someone scan the photo and send to me via e-mail (larsen@hood.edu) or have a high quality copy made. As you indicate, photos will be returned to you at the reunion or by post following the event. |
Since I do not have addresses for all the family who may be interested in this event, please share this information about the reunion with your family. If you or a family member is interested in staying on our mailing list but unable to attend, please complete the enclosed form so I will have your information. |
I am compiling a family tree for the Michael Molamphy/Ellen Smyth branch of the family and will ask members of that family branch to confirm or complete the information for your family at the reunion. If you represent another branch of the clan, I hope you will bring or send any family tree information to the reunion as well. Dan and I will collect and share the information as we work on establishing the connections between the various branches of the family. We will have copies of the family tree available following the reunion. |
To assist us in planning and arrangements, please return your registration form and payment by Monday, August 6, 2001. If you are staying at an area hotel, you are encouraged to call at your earliest convenience for your reservation. When I called to make the arrangements, they had many rooms at the Holiday Inn, but this is a busy travel time through the area. |
I am so looking forward to meeting some new cousins for the first time and seeing others again! I know Dan, Nell, Boysie, and Mick look forward to meeting you as well. Please do not hesitate to call if you have questions as you prepare to join us. |

Sincerely, |
