in 1811. J.J. Astor was the owner and builder of more hotels
and skyscrapers than any other New Yorker. He had a summer home in
Rhode Island. He also had a mansion at Newport? That had an 18-car
garage. The couple had fled New York for a tour of Egypt and Paris. They
embarked in Cherbourg. Astor and his wife were returning home.
He had his dog; an Airedale named Kitty with him. His body was found
wrapped in a lifejacket and horribly mangled. It is supposed he was
crushed when the forward funnel fell. When his body was recovered

between their homes in New York City and Squam Lake, New Hampshire.
Richard died in 1933 and his wife in 1955 both in New York? Or Squam Lake?)

Helen Newsom, the Beckwith’s daughter. He was a tennis star and he
was rescued in boat #5. In March of 1913 he married Helen, and he
continued to play tennis. In 1915 he was ranked among the top 10
players. During his business career, he was director of Herman Behr
Company, a vice president of Dillon, Read and Company. He was also on the
board of many companies including Goodyear Tire and Rubber, and the National
Cash Register. He was also nominated governor of the Alaska territory.
He died in 1949.)

end of the "B" deck. She was later named a potential candidate for
congress in 1914. She died in 1932 in New York City of a stroke.
It was after her death, the musical and film "Unsinkable Molly Brown" was
made. This gained her famed she would have enjoyed in life).

at Southampton. He was born in Augusta, Georgia where a bridge was
later named after him. During his life he had been a soldier, a news
correspondant, a novelist, and a diplomat. He had also been a close
friend of Theodore Roosvelt. In his last letter posted before he
sailed he wrote, "If the ship goes down, you will find all my affairs in
shipshape condition" ).
