TIVERTON HIGH SCHOOL BAND
Mr. Richard M. Vars, Director
Marching Band
The Tiverton High School Marching "Tiger" Band is pleased to return once
again this year under the direction of Richard Vars. Assisting the band
are Dori Palmer,Color Guard and Dance Instructor and Craig Lilly, Percussion
Instructor and Arranger. The Drum Majors for this years band are Rachel
Trudel and Steven Andrade. Color Guard Captain is Jenna St.Laurent.
In the past, the band and color guard have
performed in Williamsburg, Virginia, Toronto,Canada, Disney World in Orlando,Florida,
Philadelphia and recently at the Dixie Classic Festival in Virginia Beach,Virginia
where the Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble and Indoor Color Guard all received
both Excellent and Superior Ratings and Festival High Honors. The band
also performs each year at numerous local parades in Rhode Island and
Massachusetts. This years' field show features the music of Aaron Copelands'
Appalachian Spring and Fanfare For the Common Man. As always the "Tiger"
Marching Band and its' staff would like to especially thank the parents
of TEMPO, for their help and support in all of this years' musical endeavors.
Concert Band
Tiverton High School receives its first "A" rating in 13 years at Rhode
Island Music Educators Band and Orchestra Festival. The festival was hosted
at Warwick Vets High School in Warwick, RI. Band selections that were
performed for adjudication were, First Light on the Chesapeake Bay by
James Hosay, Havendance by David Holsinger and Mazama by
Craig Chattaway. Adjudicators were Joseph Wright, Boston University; Craig
Sherman, Western Connecticut State University; and Dan Lutz, University
of Mass at Lowell.
Tiverton High School Music Department travelled to Dixie Classics Music
Festival at Salem High School in Virginia Beach, VA for performance and
adjudication. Awards received:
- Concert Band - Excellent Rating;
- Color Guard - Superior Rating;
- Jazz Ensemble - Superior Rating; Festival Honors Award
(Highest Overall Score of the Festival)
