Tiverton Elementary Strings Orchestra
The Strings Program is in its third year and the Elementary Orchestra is thriving. The sixty member ensemble is made up of students from the Fort Barton, Nonquit, Pocasset and Walter E. Ranger Elementary Schools. The musicians receive their instruction on violin, viola, cello or string bass during before-school group lessons.
Their 2000 Winter Concert will be held at the Tiverton Middle School on Tuesday, December 5th at 7:00 p.m. in conjunction with the Tiverton Middle School Strings Orchestra. This was done to make things a little bit easier (one concert) for Mrs. Bond who will begin her maternity leave as soon as the concert is over! A bus will bring the 4th graders to the Middle School during the day on December 5th for a full concert rehearsal. Parents, please keep your eyes out for a permission slip that will be going home regarding this rehearsal.
Following their Winter Concert the students will be performing in the second annual Music in Our Schools Month String Concert in March (assuming that
the long term substitute feels up to it) and in a final concert in June with Mrs. Bond back on the podium. As usual, they will have an opportunity to dust off
their instruments during the two weeks in the summer at "Summer Strings". This will help them decide if they wish to join the Middle School 5th and 6th Grade Strings Orchestra
and continue their strings instruction in the fall of 2001.
Tiverton Middle School Strings Orchestra
In the third year of the Strings Program the first 5th and 6th grade Middle School Strings Orchestra is acclimating well and keeping busy. All 5th and 6th grade students receive one small group lesson and two ensemble rehearsals in the six-day cycle. They are ready for their 2000 Winter Concert which will be held at the Middle School on Tuesday, December 5th at 7:00 p.m. in conjunction with the Tiverton Elementary Strings Orchestra. This 2000/2001 ensemble will hopefully host a Music In Our Schools Month Strings Concert in March which will include the 4th grade students from the Elementary Strings Orchestra under the direction of the long term substitute.
Last year, other Music in Our Schools Month Events included performances at the Tiverton Senior Citizens Center and the Sakonnet Bay Manor as well as performing for the Middle School Teachers at their Teacher Appreciation Day luncheon buffet.
Many students are preparing to perform at the RI Music Educators Solo and Ensemble Festical in May and some will
also represent Tiverton at the Rhode Island String Teachers Association Stringfest in June as they have for the past two years.
